Question Couple of iPhone 3g questions

If out and about using 3g does turning wifi off make a big difference in saving power ? Same with fetch does that use alot of power ?

I'm pleased over all with this phone. The touch screen is in another league to the rest of the cack out there. Having unlimited 3g internet is your pocket is just the dogs ********.

I imagine, turning off the Wi-Fi will save power. Not sure how much though. With Fetch, i'd say it wouldn't really take much battery to run it, seeing as it only runs at intervals to download your mail.

Re: Couple of iPhone 3g questions

I find that the iPhone battery is poor enough however having Wi-Fi turned on will also run the battery down as it is permanently searching for a wireless network.

Hope this helps.

Re: Couple of iPhone 3g questions

I use a program called SBSettings on my (jailbroken) 3G, which I find is good to manage my power drain. If I am at home, or in a WiFi area, I toggle 3G off and WiFi on. If I am out and using the phone(say in the car), 3G gets switched on and WiFi off. Then if I am not using the phone for a while, maybe at work where I am using my works mobile, I toggle them both off, then toggle the 3G on when I pick it up again

Seems to work well for me - I can't remember the last time I saw a "20% Remaining" Message pop up

Does it automatically toggle between?

Re: Couple of iPhone 3g questions

At home all day within my own wireless network I've had the iphone Wifi on from 8.30 am approx till after 6pm and listened to ipod from 9am to 5ish and the battery was at 85% at around 6pm. I thought that was pretty good. I appreciate though if you're out and about all they then the Wifi will be searching a lot more for networks.

No, when SBSettings is installed, you swipe your finger across the top bar whilst on Springboard or any App, and a drop down box appears with the toggles, which are icons. They are green whilst on and red when off. you simply touch to turn on or off.

Saves messing about with going into the necessary settings pages each time you want to turn a radio chip on or off - literally takes a couple of seconds to toggle it

Re: Couple of iPhone 3g questions

Thanks all. I have not jailbroken my phone. I went to and then read stuff about bricking and it being slow and buggy for some people that had done it.

So that scared me off .

Re: Couple of iPhone 3g questions

It won't brick it!
If anything goes really wrong, you can restore it to the default firmware.

I love messing about with my phone, and ive lost count of the amount of times I have near broken it with tinkering
Easy enough to put it in DFU mode and put the latest firmware back on ready to ruin again
