Creating a wifi "Hot Spot" with the iphone?

I have downloaded PDANet for the iphone, and it seems ok, but I would also like to share my 3g connection with someone in our office who is using an itouch now and again. Unfortunately, to do this, I would need the phone to connect with the touch as a peer to peer (ad-hoc) wifi connection... something I'm not sure it's able to do

Does anyone know how we can do this?
Any help or advice would be great

I'm sure its possible, but personally i don't know how to go about it myself.

Theres lots of knowledgable people on these forums, yet i can't understand why there are no, or very little replys and posts to peoples questions on this site.

This would be a variant of tethering the phone as a modem, and I didn't think it was currently possible with the iPhone, at least if its not jailbroken.

I believe that tethering may be available from v3.0 onwards?

Can be done with the Nokia N series though via JoikuSpot

Tethering is indeed possible at the moment using pdanet via a jailbroken iPhone as the OP actually says, I don't think you can then share this connection with another device though, although I could be wrong.

Indeed, I am currently able to tether the 3g connection to a laptop over peer to peer wifi connection, or over the USB lead... but the peer to peer has to be initiated by the laptop.

What I'm asking is, are there any ways to do this from the iPhone... i.e. create a hot spot with the phone, or initiate a peer to peer connection from it.

I believe there used to be an application available on the app store but Apple banned it. Can't remember the name of it though.
