Updating to version 2.2.1

My iphone is currently on version 2.2. I wasn't goinf to upgrade to version 2.2.1 cus thought I'd wait til 3.0 is released and do it then but I am getting annoyed with the constant prompts on iTunes that I need to update and there are now quite a few apps that I want to install but can't as they only work on 2.2.1.

How do I update the version to 2.2.1? I know I need to create a "backup" but this is meant to be a different kind of backup than the one you do when you sync via iTunes.

could someone please do me a quick step by step guide on how I update as I am so bad at this kind of thing and always get it wrong.

Also, just out of curiosity, is it possible to update directly to 3.0 from 2.2 without ever having 2.2.1 installed?

Thanks

Mojo

Re: Updating to version 2.2.1

When Itunes opens and you are prompted to update just click update and when your firmware is updated itunes will automatically back up the contents of your phone. Have you jailbroken your device? You will not have to update to version 2.2.1 in order to get version 3.0 when it is released
