I have just got a new pc and set it up, I had a backup up of my calendars and contacts so restored them to my new pc so the contacts list was exactly the same as on my old pc and was still on my iphone. I then insalled i tunes and added all my music and photos back into itunes.

This is where the problem started, I synced the phone and I set it going then when i went back the contacts have been wiped from my phone and also from outlook. The problem is I have deleted the backup of the contacts as it was on a dvd-rw which i needed for somethig else.

Is there any way I can get these back?

I am using vista 32bit home premium with outlook 2007 and iphone 3g.

Please help as I had loads in there and no other record.

System restore in vista works a little differently to xp and the like , try a restore and it should bring all your contacts back.

Sounds like you are screwed im afraid.

Im sure you dont need me to tell you that you should have deleted your contacts backup after you had done a successful sync

Aren't they still on your old PC then??

I put the old hard drive in my new pc and formatted it to use as extra storage.

I know its a long shot, but you may be able to run some recovery software to find deleted files on the old disk?
Worth a try if you are desperate!

I have managed to sort it I found a backup I had on an old sd card tucked away in the drawer.

Phew.

Just for future reference, make sure you do a backup of your contacts within outlook. You can save them as a basic text csv file. Then import them back again into a new install.
