Smile Help on Iphone 3G!!!

Hi all,

I've been reading many forums and sites and still need to clarify a few things.

I'm getting thinking of upgrading my phone to the SE X1, sell it on ebay and by a PAYG IPhone 3G and use the O2 sim card in it. My tariff already has unlimited web bolt on too.

A few things I'm trying to find out are;

1. Will the O2 sim card (3G sim) work in the IPhone? Do I need to Jailbreak it? Also how do I activate it?

2. What other functions wont work apart from the Visual VM and MMS?

I hope you peeps can help.

Thanks

Re: Help on Iphone 3G!!!

You don't need to jailbreak it. Jailbreaking is fiddling with the iPhones operating system to allow third party functionality (ie MMS, Video Recording) to be integrated with the OS and work with iPhones hardware.. or something to that effect. Basically it's not mandatory, it's optional.

MMS and Visual voice mail will be the only two features you'll lose.

Re: Help on Iphone 3G!!!

Could you not just get the iPhone on contract? I'm pretty sure you won't get enough for the X1 to cover the cost of a new iPhone? I only had £330 for my X1 not long after it was released and I see the iPhone PAYG is around £500?!

Re: Help on Iphone 3G!!!

I know peeps offered deals on 3G iphones as O2 clears down stock. Could be worth giving retentions a bell and see what's on offer.

I dont think you will be offered anything special to be honest. If you make a lot of cross network calls then PAY and Go would cost a fortune, plus £340 or £390 upfront for the phone is a lot of money, especially when you still have to pay for top ups.

I got a business contract and have 2 x iphones on it using the same tariff and it works out ok for me at £60ish for the month.

Re: Help on Iphone 3G!!!

YES,
100% will work,
as i said before am doing the same thing with a 02 3G PAYG Sim,
both my sims are 02 PAYG,
but i only have net connection on one iphone the other is only used with wifi,
so i always have 3G switch off on one iphone,
which does save a lot of battery time...

It depends how much you will use it to be fair, £1440 for 2 iphones and all calls etc.. for 2 years is ok for me but not for some people. If I went Pay as u Go I would have cost me £700 upfront and then whatever top ups.

My old contract cost £40pm for a non iphone so it works out ok for me. If I had any payg for my needs it would cost a fortune for the two phones!
