iPhone insurance only from O2?

When I bought my iPhone Saturday just gone, the guy putting in my details on the computer at the till asked if I wanted insurance for £10 a month, i said no I could probably get something better from my house insurer and he said the iPhone can only be insured by O2?

I told him I'll think about it and ring up later if I want it (can do that within 14 days of purchase).

I've not tried my home insurer yet, but wondered if the O2 guy was talking BS or not?

As a side note; any one got a customer service complaint email address? He was taking down all my personal information at the til, there was a queue of people right behind me, he was asking d.o.b, address, password etc etc Anyone with a dishonest streak could have jotted down all that and try something bad like fraud. The O2 guy wouldn't let me type in the sensitive stuff or even write it down - he didn't have a pen (idiot!) so I had to stand there trying to whisper all that stuff looking like a norm. Weren't pleased with that. Pleased with the iPhone though.

Re: iPhone insurance only from O2?

My iPhone's insured through Lloyds bank as a freebie with my account. £30 excess but it's better than paying £10 a month through the nose.

Anyway, sounds like this salesperson was a right pirck.

Re: iPhone insurance only from O2?

Be careful.
Although all insurance companies will insure the mobile phone within content insurance , they may not pay you the full value of the Phone in the event of a claim. For example, if you paid £60 for the phone on a 18month contract then they may only pay you £60 - not enough to go and replace with a sim free iPhone (which is approx £400).

With the 02 insurance you have the peace of mind that they will replace the handset.

Re: iPhone insurance only from O2?

My house contents insurance (Swinton) doesn't cover my iphone, when I rang up to see about it they said they don't cover any phones.

Got mine insured through Carphone Warehouse for £3.49 a month on a monthly contract for a PAYG iphone.
