Want an I phone but will it work correctly??

Hey guys, I have searched through a few threads now and cant quite get the answer i need hence my post, I upgraded my phone last november on a new 18 month contract, I'm not that keen on the phone i have so i want an I phone but obviously o2 wont give me one as i have recently updated, My question is is there a way i can buy one second hand say from here and have all the features working? does jailbreak enable me to do this? I'm confused to what that does to be honest, I phoned up o2 and asked them the same question and the guy told me that all the features would not work, I think he said something about wi-fi not working with my o2 sim card, my card is 3 g enabled so i dont know if that would be an issue or not.

What do you guys think

Any help would be great

Gordie.

Yes mate it will work fine with your 3g sim.Wifi will work too but i think the 02 guy was referring to their cloud network and that wont work but you will be fine at home on wifi and any other free wifi.If your contract does not include the data bolt then then i would add that its £7.50 a month.

I just did exactly the same as you a few weeks ago and bought an iphone on these forums.

I had 12 months left on my O2 contract but wanted to get an iphone. I called O2 and unsurprisingly they wouldn't entertain any sort of upgrade so I picked one up and put the sim in and with the addition of the unlimited web bolt on at £7.50 a month, I have a fully working iphone 3G.

Cant comment about the cloud network for wi-fi, but it definately works on my own wi-fi at home and my folks.

Just a word of advice, if you want to use the MMS App available through the App store and your sim has been in another phone, you will need to have the MMS feature de-provisioned on your account to be able to pick them up.

There is another thread in this section about that very thing.

Cheers

why would o2 tell me all the features wont work? i dont get them sometimes, hmm, everything will work apart from cloud wi fi? That sounds good then, The contract i have with o2 enables me to unlimted data so i take it that would make any difference to it either?

I will look to buy one if my only snag is cloud network.

Your good to go mate dont worry about the cloud network you would only ever use it if your in a town centre or an airport. You have the data bolt on so just use 3g instead of wifi when your in town.

One other thing that wont work is visual voicemail but this is just a list of voice messages on the phone.Normal voicemail still works.

Re: Want an I phone but will it work correctly??

oh right, visual voicemail, i dont think i would bother about that and the cloud thing, as long as everything else works! oh i meant to ask, if i bought one say from here i take it must be unlocked for any sim, or does the locked on o2 enable me to use it?

oh and what is jailbreak? (i'll maybe just google that ha)

cheers

Allways remember, if you buy a new pay as you go Iphone from O2, and put your existing sim card in it, then you will have the free wi-fi option as well for 12 months, just no visual voicemail.
