Poor Apple Aftercare Service.

Firstly im not usually the type to come and have a little rant on an internet forum.

Ive got a iPhone 3G - had since last June/July (whenever they 1st came out)- that has recently picked up a rattle. The rattle partly comes from the slient/ringer switch (which i believe is a common fault) and partly from inside the phone which is obviously a concern.

I took my phone to my local o2 shop - although i didnt purchase it from there i thought they could point me in the right direction as the closest Apple Store is over an hours drive for me. They said this is a common fault and they would usually just replace the iPhone for a new one, but because i didnt buy it from them they couldnt change it which is fair enough.

I then took it down Southampton Apple Store, the fella in the store told me it was just the silent/ringer switch that was rattling despite when holding the switch it still rattles? He said its just wear and tear, just one of those things and wouldnt accept that there was more than one rattle in the phone.

Today i drove over an hour to get to Bristol only to be told by a helpful 'genius' that they had no appointments left to see an 'expert' and the next available appointment would be tomorrow. I mean come on it would take 5mins tops to either replace my phone or send it to be repaired or even just to talk to someone? The store was empty as well!! I dont really see this reasonable to be honest. No other shop has appointment slots?

A friend of mine recently brought a new Macbook thats screen broke within the 1st two weeks of ownership. They told her that the screen is 'unbreakable' and didnt want to know!

Anyone else had similar problems with their after care? I personally wont be purchasing another Apple product directly from their store or website from now on because quite frankly i get the impression they dont give a **** once youve already forked out your hard earned!

Re: Poor Apple Aftercare Service.

I have found Apples Aftercare to be the best I've ever delt with, e.g. iPods etc. But I do agree, you shouldn't have to book an appointment for something like that!

Re: Poor Apple Aftercare Service.

My experience has been completely different from yours and have always had excellent service for Apple Store staff!

Is it unreasonable not to expect to be seen if you haven't made an appointment, checked/booked in advance (which you could've done on you iphone) before driving all that way?!

Also, it takes longer than 5m to sort out the iphone, they have to run diagnostics, wipe your old phone and setup you new one. Minimum turn around is at least 15-30m in my experience! How would feel if you were made to wait that time if you had booked a slot and were in a hurry.......

Also, in the stores in London they have usually tried to squeeze people in your situation.

Just the flip side of the coin

Shye

P.S. I don't work for Apple

I brought my iPhone from the Southampton Apple Store.

Not sure how she broke it TBH. Im guessing it was probably her fault but to be told the screens 'unbreakable' after she had just broke it would leave me slightly confussed?

Yeah i appreciate that and in hindsight (its a wonderful thing) i probably should have gave them a bell before going down.

The whole driving down there doesnt really didnt bother me and i can understand things from their point of view but it was the fact they basically didnt care or even make an effort to help me out that got me which is a complete contrast to o2's service.

Why don't you phone them, make and appointment and then see what they say?

Re: Poor Apple Aftercare Service.

As far as the iphone goes sounds like you just got a particularly arsey member of staff...... that does happen (90% of apple staff are awesome, 10% are rubbish, 100% will talk beyond their knowledge about products).

As far as your freind with the macbook goes, screens dont break for no reason, which probably means she dropped it...... which will be an insurance claim not a warranty claim.

My first laptop went wrong three times (backlight in screen kept cutting out). They gave me a brand spanking new one with an updated processor and an extra gig of RAM. Thats the only problem I ever had with apple and i left a happy bunny.

Actually thinking about it i had a problem with a pair of headphones, after taking them back three times they still refused to give me my money back, and just tried to replace them..... So i printed out my rights from the trading standards website, highlighted the bit that applied, showed it to them and they gave me my money.

Re: Poor Apple Aftercare Service.

Thread tidied. Can we all get back to the specific issues in the OP

urz, with respect you must surely be aware bold is used to highlight. Do not be surprised if it is picked up on by members as you are doing it to an entire post, making your posts out of sync in a thread for reading
