Downgrading Contract

My friend told me once that when you are about nine months into your contract you can drop to a lower monthly rate if you can prove you do not use enough of the included minutes/texts etc. I have the iPhone on the £45 a month contract. I just don't use it enough and I was looking to drop. o2 told me I couldn't do it, but my friend is adamant he has done it twice mid contract.

Does anyone else have experience of this?

Re: Downgrading Contract

If you needed someone else to tell you 9 months, then consider it done!
I figured it was the only way i could justify the 16GB version, knowing the upfront fee would be less but the monthly costs would go down over time. This isn't the cheapest way to get a 16Gb iPhone though, the maths has already shown that.

Re: Downgrading Contract

I'd phone up O2, they'll tell you in an instant. plus jot down your end date too (in case Apple release a newer version you'll know when you can upgrade again) I think you can trade up a month or so early - anyone know for sure?
