Question Volume buttons "stuck" on 2G Jailbroken iPhone-Return to O2?

Hi all,

I've got an early 8 gig 2G iPhone and the volume buttons are what I can only describe as stuck.

It's not a major issue, but can be a problem listening to callers.

The unit was bought from an 02 shop and is still under warranty, but is jailbroken so where do I stand with returning it for repair as it's not on an 02 contract (I'm using an O2 "Simplicity" sim).

What are my options?

Ta.

Just restore it back to "proper" firmware in iTunes

But won't O2 have an issue with a 2G iPhone that isn't on a contract?

If it were a 3G model, then at least it could be a PAYG model, but there's no way that it could being 2G.

I know a hardware fault is a hardware fault regardless, but I just don't want them to wriggle out of anything.

What do you think they will do with it anyway-send for repair/replace (and if they replace, what will they replace it with)?

Cheers.

There will be no issue, when the 3G iPhone was released they allowed all O2 sims to be activated so people could sell their 2G iPhones on.

Re: Volume buttons "stuck" on 2G Jailbroken iPhone-Return to O2?

Ok, so I found my receipt and my iPhone was purchased on 25/04/08, which means I don't have that long left to get it repaired under warranty.

A couple more questions if I may....
  1. Should I take it back to an O2 shop or an Apple shop (I have the option of both locally)?
  2. What will they do-send off for repair/replace?
  3. If I do a restore this morning to take it back to standard firmware, are there any difficulties/issues when I get the repaired/replaced iPhone back and want to then jailbreak it again?

Thanks a lot.

You should take it back to where you purchased it - that is who your consumer contract is with - I don't mean phone contract, but contract of purchase if you see what I mean.

Because it is under warranty it is down to the O2 shop to get it fixed/replaced.

They do not have to offer a replacement, they can opt to send it off for repair but it must not be at a cost to you. So if they give you an address to post it off to and you have to pay the postage, that is a no-no.

So be mindful of your rights, don't let them bulldoze you and it they give you any hassles politely remind them of the sale of goods act and that the contract of purchase is between you and them and not you and apple. They are responsible for getting it fixed/replaced.

If you get lucky and get a good salesman, you might end up with a replacement of a better model. If you get unlucky it will be a repair job.

I popped into the Apple store and they said to just make an appointment (via the website), then turn up and if needs be they will swap it on the spot.
