Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

I know I can't make calls on my itouch but is it worth buying an iPhone or should I go for the htc hd? I love the itouch a screen and can type with 2 hands on the itouch but the htc will be different looks sexier and the iphone is an older gadget.
I have itouch generation 1 and love the feature where you put a song close to your speaker and it finds the song via iTunes and way it finds resturants etc. I am with o2 anyway so will be easier to upgrade to the iPhone as I am due an upgrade next month as been with 02 for 15 months.

I might get one this week if o2 let me pay a month upfront so I can purchase the iPhone in the week rather than next month.
I just realy want to know is of worth upgrading to an iPhone if I have an itouch and apart from txts and phone calls and having a version 2 iPhone rather than version 1 itouch what are the other differences?

Have a read of the Cydia thread, once you jailbreak the iPhone pretty much nothing touches it

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

looking at the tarifs they are not great. £35 a month £155 for the 16GB phone 500 txts 600 mins and unlimited internet. I would have liked 1000 txts. I get 1100 txts, 600 mins, unlimited internet for £35 a moth at the moment.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

Will the funds allow buying the PAYG iphone, might be the better way forward for you and allows you to keep your exisiting tariff. You could then upgrade on your existing tariff and offset the cost of the iphone by selling the upgrade.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

£340 for a phone is a bit much although could always sell my itouch I guess. Would I be able to put songs I have purchased via itunes to my iphone? I have loads o songs on my itouch would like to put on the phone.

Dont know what to do yet but if I sold my 16gb itouch how much should I ask for it? Must admit buying it on pay as you go and inserting my current sim so I get 1100 txts, 600 mins and unlimited internet sounds a good deal.
How easy is it to jailbreak?

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

Thanks for your help Tone. I guess the £350 pay as you go is a better deal as I can then upgrade whenever I wish rather than wait 18 months or my next upgrade and it would cost me around £150 with the 18 month contract anyway might leave it a few weeks and get some money together as want to take my care for a service first and road tax is due next month which is another £210 or £220

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

I am going to see if I can pay a month in advance so that I can upgrade now rather than next month as my phone has seen better days.
I get on fine with the keyboard on the itouch and love surfing the net and viewing trailers on the itouch which should be the same as the iphone.
Only negatives are the tarif seems a bit high, not great value and would be like having an itouch only with this can ring out. I have had my itouch about 2 years so the iphone would feel like an old gadget now.

Only other option is the HTC HD and although I would get a better tarrif and free phone I would still have to pay up for the remaining 3 or 4 months left on my contract but the HTC HD is supposed to have better screen looks nicer but the phone looks more fragile. I dont know what to do, I like the idea of customising and adding new applications on the HTC HD, dont think you can do much on the iphone.

I will be looking for you guys to help me jailbreak the iphone and add new applications etc if i get this phone.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

I went looking round the phone shops today to see what they had and was told no point in buying an iphone as I had an itouch even the o2 store said I should wait as they should have the HTC HD phone by the end of next month
I only have a first gen itouch though so miss out on a few things I told the shops the itouch had the best responsive screen that I had used and was told itouch and iphone were the best touch screens on the market but no point in having itouch and iphone they said.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

Just curious does anyone here own an ipod and itouch? I was told the iphone cant do picture messages, no bluetooth. no video recording. I said you can i you jailbreak it some didn't know what I meant while the guy at carephone warehouse said I would lose my warrenty and it costs £150 just to fix the screen.
Just looking at my itouch and didn't know there were so many applications to install, all well and good saying itouch is same as iphone but half the time I am out and about so dont have internet connection.

I think the iphone has the best screen and and response while the HTC HD video looked brighter and has video, picture messaging and bluetooth. I will just wait and see what gives me the best tarif and carry on reading here about both phones and decide which is better for me.
Thanks for your help and advice guys much appreciated and woudn't have thought about buying the iphone untill reading your comments in other threads about the iphone and how good it was.

I believe you can download programs from Cydia that will allow you to do MMS and record video. Bluetooth can only be used with headsets, not to transfer files.

And if you do choose to jailbreak it, it can always be reversed.

Why not jailbreak your iPod Touch first and use Cydia to check the cool things you can download?

At the moment Apple are looking to release a software update (V 3) which will allow all of the niggly features to become accessible. E.g copy and paste, MMS etc. This is currently been released to the developers (therefore you can sign up and get this upgrade early ) or wait until it has been officially released. I have just got my iphone and to describe it in one word - it is immense. My mate also has the HTC HD and to be honest - the screen isnt as precise as the iphone but the camera is better. Although the HTC HD is running Windows Mobile which just makes me to use.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

ok I can upgrade next week, now I love my gadgets and always want the latest gadget so not sure to get iPhone or wait for n97, of the hd pro 2. I really like the look of the iPhone and the scren and surfing the net on my itouch is a joy.
However iPhone is 2 years old and doesn't support flash websites but the applications are so easy to find and install so don't know what to to really or could just wait for new iPhone to be released.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

As I mentioned before, I have an iPod Touch, but want an iPhone main reason being cos of the GPS.

It can do alot more things that the Touch can't and some of the apps can only be used with just the phone.

Waiting for the next iPhone wouldnt be a genius idea. Its rumoured to be out either late, late this year or this time next year. Wouldnt hold out on the fact its going to be here in the next couple of months.

To be honest, the iPhone does everything you need a phone to do and a whole lot more. The touch screen is spot on, the amount of apps that are available are amazing. To be honest, the iPhone is 2 years old, but personally i would still say its the best phone on the market.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

Too many rumours at the mo - but most seem to point to June as being the next release - thats been the month previously for launches!

Having said that though there are 'rumours' of a lower spec device also so who knows?

Personally - we should know one way or another in June at the WWDC (Apple Dev conference) so I'm gonna wait.

I read that you can use your current tarif with the iphone so really tempted to get one now as I doubt will be able to do that with the newer models should they be released.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

I know I should wait until June for the new version to come out but the more I am playing with my itouch and more I want an iphone now. I want to be able to surf the net when I am not at home and ring for cinema tickets and check the times when I am out and about etc.
Is there any chance 02 would let me have the iphone and keep my current tariff which is 600 mins, 1100 txts and unlimited internet for £35 a month?

I am sure I read that o2 are letting people continue their current tariffs on the iphone for people who are coming to an end of their contract to get rid of the current version of iphones. I know the new version will have better camera and video recording but I am not bothered about them features. I think I will enjoy using the iphone to surf the net more than the N97 when it is released and the apps are superb.

Re: Is it worth buying an iPhone if I have an itouch

You could do what I have just done, pick up a 2nd hand 3G iPhone for £200 or so. Sell your Touch for about £100 so cost to change much smaller.

Then move your number to the 02 simplicity online deal £20 a month for 1200 texts, 600 mins & unlimited web bolt on.

Best of all worlds, low cost to change & not tied into a long term contract with the handset & sim

Where did you pick one up for £200? I think I will get one this week as the itouch does everything I want and i love the touch screen so easy to type. I dont think there is any need for me to wait and go for the Nokia N97 or HTC pro 2.
