Re: blackberry to iphone converts

I never managed to get the hang of the keypad on the Pearl. I found it to be slower than a normal mobile phone keypad. I'm sure that speed and accuracy improves over time, but I always found it frustrating. I found that I could tap out messages pretty quickly the iPhone, right out of the box. I prefer reading email on the iPhone and browsing is terrific.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

So I have a corporate Curve and a personal iPhone.

I'd never try and do serious e-mails on the iPhone, the Curve keyboard is miles faster. The Curve also holds onto a signal far longer than the iPhone. In every other way the iPhone is superior.

A curve is the phone i have right now, was considering getting the new 8900. The only thing that puts me off is the touch screen, not sure i will be able to get used to it. I tend to read more emails than write them, but i do text quite a bit. So far i am leaning to the iphone.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

I also have a curve but am wondering about switching to the iphone. I have a 2g iphone but find the signal appalling wherever I am, is the 3g any better ?
Also is there any iphone alternative to push email ?

Thanks
Steve

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

i have had the iphone for 6 days now, so far so good. I was on t-mobile before on the curve and the reception was good , i was expecting better on
o2 as most people slate t-mobile for reception but i am finding the iphone loses reception in certain places ( eg lower ground floor of the building i work at ) wheres as the curve didn't before.

I don't think there is a push option just the auto check which you can set for every 15 minutes to an hour. someone pls correct me if i am wrong.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

I have no regrets moving from a BB Pearl to iPhone.

Find the predictive texting on the iPhone to be more than a match for the dual qwerty keyboard (can't comment about vs full size one!).

Battery life isn't as good, but then again it didn't do as much

Push option is under settings and fetch new data. IIRC push email is only an option with certain email accounts e.g. Mobile Me or yahoo.

Enjoy,
Shye

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

Yeah, I think its only Exchange or MobileMe email that works using push. The others (Gmail, Yahoo or just POP3) will pull mail according the time period you set.

I agree with both of these comments.
I lose signal when leaving my office building in central London and it can take sometimes upto a minute before i can make a call again.

Push options will generally be paid stuff like MobileMe (MAC mainly) or Microsoft Exch. People i know who use it, like it. I just won't pay the money for my requirements.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

Yahoo is supposed to work with push email, I believe. I have a free:

mail2web.com - Pick Up Your Email

account and that works fine as push.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

Only thing I kinda hate about the iPhone is it takes age's to get it's reception back. When I'm on the Underground, and come out of it, it takes an age. Whereas on the Blackberry it is instant (however this is 2G) whereas the iPhone is 3G.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

Have both (BB for work) and to me they serve different purposes, the BB is primarily an email tool which I can't imagine ever using my Iphone for on a regular basis, yes its great for email here and there but not for a couple of hundred mails a day Also agree with prev poster BB does seem to get a fix on networks immed (I notice this particularly when travelling and coming off a plane the Iphone can take an age to get a signal whereas my BB works within seconds.

Both great for what I use/need them but wouldn't want to only have one of them TBH.

Another friend of mine is like yourself and has both, and he said the exact same thing about the blackberry being alot better for emails etc but the iphone being better for lifestyle with the apps etc.

I am lucky in the sense i use my iphone to read more emails than i send so its not bad, i am primarily office based as well. If i wasnt with the poor battery life i don't think the iphone would make a good work /business phone.

Re: blackberry to iphone converts

I don't own either, but used both.

I think the iPhone is better because the interface and OS is more user friendly.
