iPhone died

hi,

my iphone has just died and my contract runs out in June. I called O2 and they basically said "Tough. Wait until May and upgrade". I have a couple of questions:-

1) if i buy one from ebay, can I just pop my sim into it and it will work as normal? I assume it doesn't need to be jail broke or anything. Then I will look at maybe waiting until the next version comes out (if the rumours are true) and upgrade. Looks like old iphones on ebay are going for around 150 - 180 quid

2) I could ring O2 and ask them for my PAC number. Maybe they would soften their view and let me upgrade now (any one tried this?) but if not, I could pay up the rest of my contract (around 150 quid), walk into carphonewarehouse and start a new contract (another 100 quid).

Would those 2 options work?

thanks guys.

Re: iPhone died

I would sue them as not fit for purpose, how can they force you on to an 18 month contract but only give you 12 months warranty, it just wrong.

Re: iPhone died

Any o2 sim will work in the iphone.
Phone 02 ask for your PAC and explain to them your problem. They might cancel the old contract if you take out a new 18 month contract from now.Still costs you £100 but shiny new 3g handset if it works

I tried that. Her answer was "take your sim out of your iphone, put it in another phone and wait until May to upgrade". I would happily pay the 100 quid for a G3 (my old one was a G2) if they let me start the 18 month contract again.

OK, you could take it to an Apple store, out of warranty service charges are at the bootom of this page....

Apple - Support - iPhone - Service FAQs

If the battery has gone Apple will charge you £55 and swop it on the spot...

Apple - Support - iPhone Out-of-warranty Battery Replacement Program

ok so that is going to cost me 139 quid to get it fixed. If I call O2 and threaten to quit my contract they either let me renew and it costs me 100 quid for a brand new G3 - or they refuse and it costs me 150 quid to get out of my contract and then 100 quid for a brand new G3.

The phone is water damaged and no, not on insurance. Unless I am missing something, doesn't getting it repaired when I only have a couple of months left on my contract seem like a lot of money to spend on what is still an 18 month old phone.

I claimed on my house insurance,Direct Line, and had no problems (dropped it in a cup of tea ) and they never asked for the old iPhone either. My son has just the other day spilt Coke over his and hopefully they'll pay out on that as well.
I'd give your house insurance another go.
