Hi Guys

My father bought an iPhone last week and called me this morning to say that he just accidently dropped it and now the screen is scracked really badly and is almost unusable, how is this repaired? Do apple fix this? Or is it a try your luck with O2?

I haven't come accross this problem with Apple but I am pretty sure no company would fix a cracked screen under warranty since the problem is not a manufacturing default but damage caused by the user. I had the same issue with my Creative mp3 player. They said it would cost £95 to fix which I decided was not worth it (as it cost about £180 new) so went back to using my old black and white mp3 player. Ofcourse the iphone is very expensive so you would have to fix it.

You can try 02 who may agree to send it to Apple for you but it would definitely be Apple that fixes it.

It may be covered under his home contents insurance? Worth a call.

Yeah you guys are probably right, I'll give him a call again and see if he can try clain under his contents insurance.

Unfortunately the screen isn't covered by the warranty. I know this because my phone currently looks like this:

I took my one to the Apple Store at Lakeside, and they said that because everything inside was OK, they couldn't replace my one for free. They asked for £149 to replace the phone, I said "no thanks".

I don't think o2 would repair or hand out a new one to you.

I'm currently searching for the cheapest repairers, so far I've only come across iPaq Repair & Parts who'll replace the screen for under £70.

If anyone else comes across anywhere cheaper, PM me.

Cracked screens are usually the only thing that isn't covered under warranty.

I believe it can be repaired for around £160.

Just insure it wait a few months and then do it over the insurance will cost you £50 max. (£30 excess and £10pm for 2 months).

Most insurance companies will only give you so long to take the insurance after you've bought the phone if that makes any sense?
