Genius Bar

Hi all
I have been having problems with my jailbroked/unlocked iphone so i decided to restore back to orignal state. I inserted a payg o2 sim(and i get "no service") and now iTunes tell me to make sure the sim has no pin and try to re-connect, and the phone will only let me makes emergncy calls.

So....if i take this phone to the genius bar will they get "funny"?
(the phone is well out of warranty, so will this cost me?)

Thanks in advance chaps

Your posts are a little unclear so I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, but if you are going to take it back to wherever, why not take it back in it's original (restored) state. As you are trying to use an O2 sim in it, it doesn't need to be unlocked????

Probably, restore in iTunes to a normal unjailbroken state. Then take it to them. If they manage to sort it you can then put all your bits back on when you get it home.

I really wanted it unlocked as im on voda(and i have been using it on voda for the last 6months or so), but i have a spare o2 sim and just tried it in its orignal state and itunes did not like it for some reason.
Im going to have another go at unjailbreaking tonight and see what happens

Re: Genius Bar

Pdiddy is correct, do an itunes restore.
I took mine back after two days as the wifi had just stopped working, I had jailbroken it but not unlocked it. I did a full restore on it before I took it back, when they plugged it into their diagnostic logger software it came back without any flashing warnings or anything to indicate that it was previously jailbroken

Re: Genius Bar

Thanks for all they replys lads.
In its UNjailbroken state the phone will not connect to itunes. Itunes gives the message "itunes cannot activate your iphone because a sim is not inserted or has a sim pin"(or words to that effect)
As i cant register/setup the iphone with itunes once i restore it will this matter?

And if it has been "blocked" by the previous owner will they give me the phone back????

What kind of problems have you been having ? The restore should sort them, and as has been pointed out, just re-jailbreak & unlock.

Re: Genius Bar

What modem firmware are you showing ? I know the latest one has stopped the unlocking of the iPhones ....... for now Hence, with it being a US iPhone, the o2 sim won't work. Keep looking on the Apple & iPhone News | Forums | ModMyi.com site for progress in the unlocking.

Re: Genius Bar

I think that is the latest modem firmware, will check on my sons if it switches on, he spilt coke over it and its buggered, so if it is you're stuck on the unlocking of it for now I'm afraid
EDIT: Yes, same baseband, that sounds like your problem do a search on downgrading your baseband,IF, its possible. I know it is'nt on 3G handsets, but not too sure on 2G. Even if you do a restore using old firmware, you may still have the new baseband. Get some old firmware off the site I recommended above, and restore in iTunes using that.
Good Luck .

Re: Genius Bar

Okay lets go back to the start shall we.

If you are using QuickPwn to try to unlock that could be your issue as quite a few people have problems with Quickpwn unlocking.

Firstly restore the latest firmware using iTunes to get it back to how it should be "out of the box", downgrading your baseband is not required for the 1st Gen iPhone as all the firmwares can be unlocked no problem.

If you want to try again with Quickpwn make sure you get the latest version from here

Or if you have had enough of Quickpwn use Winpwn (or Pwnage Tool if you have a Mac) from the links on the above page and follow the instructions.

There really is no reason why the unlock shouldnt be working on a 1st Gen iPhone even if its from the States, its only the 3G where the latest firmware cant be unlocked.
