xGps update now out on Cydia with voice directions.

yep, took 2 attempts for me to download it.

I got GPS error messages...

Error

"Unable to get the GPS position. The GPS is not currently giving any position information"

you have to go to settings GPS and select iphone 3g

i will try it out on my way home, but i have already noticed it wants to take me a rather odd route home. Does anybody know if you can force it to go a particular route (or via a particular place or road) and also, how well does it recalculate a route if you decide to divert off route?

the 2G iphone doesn't have GPS in it, so I would doubt this app will work.

Ive put it on iphone 3g and its found where i am.

Im stuck at work at the moment though, ive set the directions from work to home. We'll see how it gets on at 5 !

Kept getting the MD5Sum mismatch error and when it finally did appear to be installed according to Cydia there's no icon for it

gonna give mine a go on the way home but just playing with it at work and it seems to be a bit slower downloading live maps.

When downloading from the manager software Is there supposed to be a percentage graph as to how much it's downloaded because I'm just gettin the spining wheel.

Well, had a quick play on the way home from work, far from a comprehensive test as it is only a 15 minute drive...but verdict so far: Not impressed!

I will try and remain open minded, but I really cant see this as a viable alternative for a Sat Nav.

Problems encountered:

Can't hear the voice (via iPhone speaker)
Computerised voice difficult to understand (might be better to understand if I could hear it better, lol)
Kept on flashing up the 'Wrong Way' alert despite me not going the wrong way.
It decided to forget it was supposed to be directing me anywhere following a brief phonecall that I received. (after the call, the purple highlighted calculated route had disappeared, and it failed to give me any further instruction for the remainder of my journey.
Disable sleep mode - I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that this is supposed to prevent the phone locking and screen turning off? Well, it didn't.

Failed to find any positives so far....but I'll persevere...

Yeah this pretty much summed up my experience with it as well

Yeah there is, don`t think you can download more than around 150mb at a time. Sadly this equates to about half of the Lake District and takes forever. And i`m on an 8 meg connection.

I managed to get a 350mb map downloaded, though it did take a very long time. I set it so that it only download the map at a zoom level of 2. I don't want to be using up all of my iPhone storage space just for maps

I actually forgot to test this out on my way home but it sounds like I wouldn't have had much luck, lets hope some future updates will make it better.

I used this last night for a trip of a few miles, and it worked ok! I had my iphone connected to my car audio, so the low sound wasnt a problem. The route is gave me was the exact route i use, so no problem there.

All in all, i need a sat nav for a trip this weekend, and i think it will get me there ok.

Problems: Sometimes it think im off to the side of the road and says im going wrong way because of it, but adjusts itself not so long afterwards. Robotic voice can be a bit difficult to understand at times. It lags a little bit, a few seconds behind where you are. It beeps just before the voice speaks, but doesnt beep when your actually supposed to be taking the action, thi should be implemented.
And of course the biggest problem, maps are huuuuuge.

I tried it on the way in to work (a 30 mile journey) without maps and it worked ok. It takes a little bit of time to get used to the voice; it would actually be better if it didn't speak the road and just said "in 200 feet turn right/left"

I too connected the aux to my stereo so it was no problem hearing the voice and the alert sound is useful; if somewhat off-putting at first.

All in all, a very good starting app, especially for free.

The best test, of course, is to use it to get to somewhere you don't know, or don't know the route to. It's easy to be biased, and inadvertently compensate for slight glitches it the xGPS performance when you already know which way you are supposed to be going.

I would also be interested to hear if people experienced the same issue as I did when I received a call mid journey (ie xGPS forgetting what it was supposed to be doing, after the call) or whether this was a one-off.

Another thing I noticed, and I will need to confirm this, it was getting confused at roundabouts. When I needed to take the 3rd exit, it was telling me I needed to take the fourth exit (despite there only being 3 exits!). Perhaps it was counting the road I was approaching the roundabout on as the first exit??!

I think i will have a play again at the weekend.

i am having problems with it finding my destination and also i cant get the voice to work at all language is english sound on and option on and i get nothing ! any ideas ?

How are you searching for your destination out of interest?
Have you tried searching for a postcode?
