Problem with SBSettings and Edge toggle

SBSettings frequently hangs when I attempt to turn off Edge, forcing me to reset the iPhone.

It doesn't always happen (about 60% of the time) and I have not yet been able to see a pattern for when it works and when it doesn't.

Might have something to do with whether an app is open or not.

Anybody else having any problems with this?

(I also have biteSMS, and Winterboard installed, and errm...i think that's it)

EDIT: it happens when i have music playing (in addition to other times) - if I open SBSettings and click on the Egde togge, the music stops and the iPhone freezes. It restarts itself after a couple of mins.

How do I turn Edge on/off in the phone settings? (I can see where i turn 3G on or off)

Anyway, that's only a workaround, as ultimately I want to be able to use SBSettings to toggle this.

As an aside - should I expect to be able to connect to the net when 3G is enabled (and phone is showing 3G and strong signal)? Reason I ask is that it seems (when using SBSettings) that Edge needs to be enabled before I can connect.

Re: Problem with SBSettings and Edge toggle

Am I the only one with this problem then?

I still have not found a solution, as disabling 3G before disabling E still invariably ends in a crash.

Re: Problem with SBSettings and Edge toggle

OK, this is now driving me mad. SBSSettings crashes (9 times out of 10) when I try turning off edge, and only way to recover is to reboot the phone.

Could somebody tell me how to turn on/off edge without using SBSettings?

Thanks!

OK, I'll answer my own question...I think it's the same as turning on/off Data Roaming in settings.

HOWEVER: there seems to be no correlation between turning on/off data roaming and whether EDGE shows as being on/off (ie red or green) in SBSettings.

Re: Problem with SBSettings and Edge toggle

Hi,

I've got the same problem....

I haven't find any solution now but there is another app like SBSettings called BossPrefs available on Cydia... It doesn't start when you slide your finger on status bar but you can configure it to start with the double tap on Home Button. I use it only for Edge.

Hope I'm helping...

Tell me if you find a solution, I'll tell you back too.

Thanks for your reply

But...I believe SBSettings is the new and improved replacement to BossPrefs, developed by the same person....

So not a solution as such

Re: Problem with SBSettings and Edge toggle

You could try this: iPhone 2.0: How to Disable Cellular Internet Access | Brent Kearney

It sets a new APN profile on your phone so it cannot connect to the cellular data network and is reversible.

Brent, works like a charm on my Rogers 3g iPhone running 2.0. Emailed myself the file and opened the attachment at which point a confirmation box or two popped up and installed. Verified EDGE was disabled without having to reboot the phone (you are not subscribed to any cellular data networks in Safari) and re-enabled EDGE without rebooting! Thanks mate.

Hmm, not sure this is really a solution either....as I WANT to use Edge, not disable it, and the only reason I want to be able to turn it off is to save battery (I assume this saves power)

The above solution isn't a toggle as such.
