Anyone tried making their own apps?

I have just downloaded the iphone SDK. I have absolutely no experience in making programs but thought I would look into learning it as a part-time hobby. Has anyone else made an app or interested in learning?

Any tips would be appreciated, especially if anyone can tell me how difficult it would be for a newbie to learn!

Re: Anyone tried making their own apps?

I would love to learn, but dont have a mac so i cant I would love to have macOS.

Apparantly C/C++ are the best basis to learn if you dont already know it. Also there's something called (iirc) cocoa...

If you're looking for a project, how about a "profiles" app like on nokia phones so we can set different combination of silent/vibrate/loud etc easily there's quite a few people who want that, so it might even be a bit of a money spinner (for jailbroken as apple wont allow it)

Re: Anyone tried making their own apps?

The language is objective C, so any other OO language experience will be a great help.
I've had a play making a few basic apps and am currently working on a game.
From a developers perspective, both the framework (cocoa touch) and its documentation is nowhere near the MS .NET frameworks but there are enough bloggers and snippet writers to be able to look at some example code to help you work out a solution.

There are some very basic beginners tutorials here: iPhone Programming Tutorial. If there is anything specific you need help with just shout and I'll do my best Just bear in mind that the only real documented APIs are the ones apple restict the appstore publishers to, so things like llol_slims idea of a profile switching app will be very hard work for a beginner as any documentation for the API calls needed to do such things will be limited to what you can find on some random jailbreak developers blog or forum!

Am I right in thinking you can't access bluetooth functionality?

A blu ray remote for the PlayStation 3 would be good...

The API exists, but it locked by apple and can't be used
