My iPhone 3G is dead...grrr.

Switched it on this morning and got the 'Connect to iTunes' screen. Connected it tonight and got a message saying it could not connect to iTunes because the validation information wasn't available (or something like that). Tried a reset and rang O2 who went through a few things. Anyway the upshot is it's dead, has now switched itself off and won't turn back on. Got to take it back to a store tomorrow and will have to wait 5 working days for a repair or replacement. Apparently they'll lend me another one if they have a spare handset in store. Cracking.

Sorry to hear it's broken mate! Have some faith though from all the stories I've heard have been good Every story if their phone was bugged they've come out of the store with a relplacement straight away!

Re: My iPhone 3G is dead...grrr.

thats not right, I took mine in on monday as it was failing to make calls. They would only send or off to Apple for repair. The guy gave me my SIM back and said sorry they didnt have any loan phones left!

So Im left with no mobile and am still waiting for the result of Apples repair.

I will wait to see the result and then claim back the relevant amount of monthly tariff I have been without the phone.

Take it to an Apple store to be repaired and they will do it on the spot.

Sadly my nearest Apple store is at the Trafford Centre which is 117 miles away! Not happy with the idea of just handing it over to O2 as all my business e-mails and photos of my son are on it. Guy from O2 assured me it would be wiped straight away but I'm still not happy.

You tried booting into DFU mode and restoring the firmware ?

Re: My iPhone 3G is dead...grrr.

I couldn't wipe it because the PC wouldn't recognise it when I plugged it in. DFU mode was a no-go as well.

Anyway, I took it to the Trafford Centre and walked out with a new one 15 mins later, none of their magic tricks could revive it at all. Bit of a faff about going all the way over there but preferred to do that rather than waiting for O2 to sort it.
