Is the iphone gps any good for navigation

I presently use the N95 with Garmin XT and have been very happy with it.

Is the iPhone google gps guidence similar?

What happens when I go into deepest darkest welsh mountain with no phone signal - will it just loose all its maps etc?

Do people use this as a day to day navigation device - I'm trying to avoid dashboard clutter!

unfortunatly not very good
apples walled garden does not allow 3rd party navigation apps

google maps is the only option - which is ok for planning and pedestrian navigation - but not as a fully featured turn-by-turn navigation app.

also - I dont think the gps is not very accurate either

it's a big letdown for me after buying one.....

Re: Is the iphone gps any good for navigation

That is truly rubbish.

I'd just justified to myself to buy one of these but the navigation is one of the main features I intended to use.

I am truly gob smacked that apple have not got this sorted.

hmm....back to the drawing board.

I'm assuming that jailbreaking it makes no difference?

Ive used it and to be fair its not that bad, u plot ur route then target on ur location and u can watch urself down the plotted route. Ok its a case of turning ur phone round to view the route from the right direction but generally im pleased and have used it numerous times to find places. It does batter ur battery life though.

Hmmm...

Would be used in car with cradle so not worried about batt life (anything better than N95!)

As for turning round - I prefer North orientated to the top at all times - is that was it does?

Still tempted.....

exactly what he said.... there isnt any turn by turn applications for it yet, but I've heard one is being worked on....

It can sometimes be a bit laggy when on GPRS, but seeing as I hate turn by turn sat navs its ideal for me..... I just wish it would autorotate after making turns lol.
