Transfer iPhone to another machine

Hi,

I currently sync my iPhone with my laptop but would like to start doing this on my desktop machine instead, how would I go about doing that?

Do you just sync with the desktop or is there further steps involved? My iPhone is jailbroken don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: Transfer iPhone to another machine

Does the desktop have all your contacts, etc on it?

If it doesnt then I believe all your contacts, music, photos, etc. will get wiped when you sync to your new machine.

I'm not expert, but can you not just back-up your itunes and contacts on your laptop and put them on your pc, then you can sync to that?

Re: Transfer iPhone to another machine

Recently did this myself.

Copied the whole iTunes directory onto an external HDD and then copied it again onto the new PC.

Hey presto. The computer will give you the blurb about your account on a new pc, but thats about it. Simple.

Thats great I will give this a go myself, so you just installed iTunes on your new machine and copied the whole directory from your old machine and overwritten everything.

I installed iTunes on my new PC and copied the directory from my laptop to the PC and plugged in my iPhone and it never asked me anything just recognised my iPhone usually doing a sync takes a bit of time but within a few seconds it syncs?

Have I done this right and it also keeps saying it cannot find Outlook to sync with?

Re: Transfer iPhone to another machine

Is it not safer to just manually manage your music rather than sync it?

If you manually manage, can you install apps?

Re: Transfer iPhone to another machine

How would this work if you were moving from a Windows desktop to a Mac?

Re: Transfer iPhone to another machine

You will have no problem moving to a mac at all.

To avoid sync issues when moving from computer to computer (or just on the one) in itunes go into preferences - devices and then disable the autosync option. It will never do it again and you can make sure you only sync (and delete) what you intend to.

Re: Transfer iPhone to another machine

What is the best method transferring iTunes from one computer to another for the iPhone?

I have tried the above method of just copying the iTunes directory over and it does not sync or backup and does not recognise any applications on my phone.
