Can't connect to livebox?

Hi Guys, as title of thread suggest I am having difficulty connecting my new 3g iphone to my wifi at home via an orange live box.

The phone detects the network but wont connect even though I enter the password correctly (done it and checked it too many times to mention) and set the livebox in 'pairing mode' by pressing the number 1 button.

I have disabled security on the network which the iphone detects (doesn't show the padlock) but it still wont connect - AAAAAARRRRGGHH!!
Any ideas?

Also is there any way I can save the password on the iphone so I don't keep having to punch it in?

I reckon I will love the phone once I get used to it

Re: Can't connect to livebox? suicide imminent

Hi,

I had a nightmare with a livebox two weeks ago, and finally ended up reading the manual of all things - still it did solve the problem.

There were two buttons (1 & 2) on the side. I had to press 1 and the router started flashing for 10 minutes, during this time you can attach new items (with the relevant password etc) outside this 10 minute window, only units already "paired" will be able to attach even though anyone can see the wireless ID.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice both - I know about the '1' button Jack - already tried with no success

How about the saving the password issue? anyway to do this so I can just paste it - sick to death of entering it!

Re: Can't connect to livebox? suicide imminent

Try changing security code to WEP only, then set the maximum pairing time to unlimited.

What security does your router have? Apple are a bit hit and miss with WEP codes, mine wouldnt connect with WEP, changed to WPA and had no problems after that

My boys have a livebox at their house, and neither can connect their iphones to it! I have spent lots of hours searching for a solution that works, am still looking!

IMHO it is bad that a BB ISP that also supplies iphones should have a easy way of doing it, but with Orange no!

All I can say is that if you press the button on your livebox that makes it go into `pairing mode` i.e. the light on top of the livebox flashes - the livebox can then be paired - but only for a limited time - 10 minutes I think.

In that limited period you need to get your iphone to search for available wifi networks. You should see your home network show up in the list ( if there are more than one ) select it and then ypu need to enter the long wep key - in my livebox`s case 25 characters of letters and numbers. You only need to do this once as the phone remembers it.

If for whatever reason you are not able to follow this proceedure then I guess a call to Orange to see if they can swap your livebox woukld be in order.

However this is only if your iphone is able to discover other wifi networks and connect to them. If not the problem could be iphone based.

Hope that helps.

Just posted to say thanks for the information in this thread. I was tearing out my hair and cursing Orange when my i-phone wouldn't pair with the Livebox. That password is half a mile long and my fingers are not i-phone compatible so I was never sure if it was my fault that the Livebox refused to pair. The handbook is only in French and anyway real men don't read the instructions! So the simple requirement to press the button on the front of the box has saved my sanity, my i-phone and the lives of Orange employees. Thank you!
