Looking at older text messages? Email set up? and Quitting apps?

i thought I'd bundle 3 questions into one thread, so here goes:

I just got a new 8GB 3G iPhone on Friday with a new contract with O2, at which point I received 3 text messages from O2 - these were my log in details for the website, I didn't right them down at the time and now cannot seem to get to them, i click the SMS button and this brings up a list that looks something like this:

Lucy 18:24
Pint? I'm going to be your way about 7.35, let me know if you fancy it?
O2 Friday

when i press friday it just takes me through to a blank-ish screen with a "call" or "add to contacts" tab.

How do I look at these messages? and is there a sent, deleted, and drafts folder?

Question 2:

When setting up an email account, how do I get it to use O2's/the phones built in 3G as the outgoing mail server - I'm using a standard POP3 email account.

Question 3:

When switching between applications using the Home button does this quit the application if it is not being used, I'm used to quitting applications on the Mac but don't see an option for this on the iPhone.

I tried searching but couldn't immediately find the answer to these, but if they have already been answered, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Re: Looking at older text messages? Email set up? and Quitting apps?

Answer 1:

No drafts or deleted messages folder. Text messages are shown in a "threaded" view, with each person getting their own conversation. So your 3 messages from o2 should be there. It takes a bit of getting use to, but I now prefer it. And no you can't forward text messages.

Answer 2:

Get googlemail, a lot better than hotmail etc in my opinion. If you've got a mac, very easy to set gmail up in the mail app too. Go into settings and enable IMAP, so when out and you read your emails, they show up that they've been read when you return home.

Answer 3:

Not all apps run in the background. This will be coming in a future update mainly for instant messenger apps etc. At the moment it is my understanding that if you press the home button it exits the app. If you hold the home button down for about 6 seconds while in the app, then it will quit it.

I've set up a gmail account precisely for that, however I need to be able to access and reply to my work emails on the iPhone. As I will be doing this via 3G most of the time I need an outgoing mail server, any ideas? Also can it handle more than one account?

Thanks - It's setting up a POP3 Account that I'm having trouble with, it asks for a outgoing server, as I'm never going to be in the same place at the same time, I can't specify one I connect to via WiFi but need to specify O2's 3G one anyone know what this is?
