Question Do I *need* to update firmware etc on my 8GB Gen 1 iPhone?

Hi all

As above, I've got a Gen 1 iPhone that is jailbroken/unlocked (using iLiberty), but I haven't updated anything really since I bought/unlocked it last summer.

iTunes keeps telling me that new firmware is available but I just keep ignoring it as I'm not sure what (if any) benefits it will bring!

So what would be the benefits of me updating it (and how do I tell exactly which firmware I am running?

Ta.

You dont need to update if you are happy with what you have.

You are, however, missing out on a lot of new features especially the App Store and what that brings to the iPhone.

If you upgrade to the latest firmware you can unlock easily using Pwnage Tool, Winpwn or Quickpwn which is covered in the unlocking thread.

If you used iLiberty to unlock you are running a pretty old firmware, you can check what you are using in Settings, General, About, Version.
