What happens between 12 and 18 months if something goes wrong??

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before but with the minimum contract length on pretty much any decent phone tarrif being 18 months (my iphone included) what happens if my phone develops a fault within the contract but outside of the 12 month warranty period? Surely the networks must have some obligation to repair/replace your phone if you are still in a minimum contract length?

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the limited functions that my iphone offers, I used to LOVE it but after digging out my old Nokia 6300 today I managed to listen to the radio on the way to football, send someone a video message from the ground and realised that I am currently paying £35 per month do do not that much with my iphone!

I am now considering Jailbreaking so I can use mms etc, or even selling up and getting something else!

I was told when I bought mine (although I always take anything told to me by a representative of O2 with a pinch of salt) that the iPhone will come with an 18 month warranty.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I have just found this on the O2 website, take note of the word in bold!

Does my iPhone have a warranty?

All iPhones come with a 1 year limited manufacturers warranty. If your iPhone experiences technical issues within a year of purchase then it must be returned to the point of sale with a valid proof of purchase to enable repair, replacement or a refund if necessary.
br> If you purchased your iPhone on line then you can contact our Customer Service to arrange repair or alternatively visit the Apple website

They may claim only 12 months but as they issue them on an 18 month contract it would be reasonable to expect that product to last not less than the minimum contract length. If Apple/O2 try and enforce the 12 month period i am sure the Sale of Goods act would help us owners out, as by supplying the iPhone on an 18 month contract they are implying that the product will work for at least that period and it failing within that period could class it as unfit for purpose.

Would you mind if I printed that out and stapled it to my receipt?

Bought mine today; an 18 month manufacturers warranty was CLEARLY STATED.

But, accidental damage is not included unless one pays for additional insurance.

"CLEARLY STATED" in writing (Good) or verbally (not worth the time it took them to reassure you, probably).
