Hi! I use my company sim in my Iphone 3g that is o2, just watch out for the data usage..... it's very hard to control it and just handling emails i use 15mb a month.

I would also advise turning off 3g if you don't have an inclusive data package. If 3g is on the whole email will be downloaded no matter what size it is and at £2 per mb it could be very expensive.

o2 contract sim works. Just make sure you get a free data tariff or there really is no point in having one!

Not sure about the visual voicemail, can't say i've tried.

Another trick to get free wifi for a year is to connect to one of the cloud spots and put your iphone payandgo number in. You only have to do it once but then you get free access to all the cloud hotspots!

Yes but there are cheaper (though much more complex ) ways of getting an iphone.

Not so attractive when your contract is a "retention" special, makes it worthwhile using in PAYG iPhone.
