How much data do you use a month?

Hi,

O2 have offered me a contract update without a phone. It comes with the unlimited web bolt on, which according to O2's t&c's means a 'fair usage' limit of 200mb. Would this cover an average persons usage with an iPhone 3G?

Re: How much data do you use a month?

I certainly have never got near 250Mb on my iPhone but I utilise Wifi in the flat and when I am in town also through the Unlimited Wifi on the iPhone Contracts.
But yeah unless you use YouTube an awful lot that should be fine, also I don't believe they charge over the 200Mb but they may warn you about future months if you go over.

Oh ok, that is useful to know.
I realise using wifi on a home network would be free and wouldn't count as data on the 'unlimited web' limit, but is it pretty easy to turn off or avoid connecting to those wifi hotspots that would otherwise cost money for those NOT using a sim on an iPhone contract? I hope that makes sense.

Re: How much data do you use a month?

av said this a few times on here that they is no 200mb limit anymore. alot of people look at the buisness part of o2s terms, that does still have 200mb limit.

Re: How much data do you use a month?

For the BT Openzone ones or Cloud you have to enter your mobile number on first connection to confirm you are an O2 customer eligible for free Wi-fi so it shouldn't be a problem to not connect, it won't do it automatically unless it is a free Hotspot and has no security on it.

Re: How much data do you use a month?

this is from o2
Data Charges

* Unless a data or BlackBerry Bolt On is taken, your tariff will include O2 Web Daily under which data will be charged at £3 per MB up to a maximum of £1 per day (00:00am to 23:59pm). Once you have reached your maximum daily charge of £1, O2 Web Daily allows you unlimited use of Telefónica O2 UK Limited's Edge/GPRS/ 3G networks (as applicable to your handset), for personal internet use via your mobile phone. All usage must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:
o in, or connected to, any other device including modems;
o to allow the continuous streaming of any audio / video content, enable Voice over Internet (Voip), P2P or file sharing; or
o in such a way that adversely impacts the service to other O2 customers.

If O2 reasonably suspectsyou are not acting in accordance with this policy O2 reserves the right to impose further charges, impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission or disconnect your tariff at any time, having attempted to contact you first.

You could blow throw this if you'd jailbroken the iPhone and installed a 'tethering' app. so your laptop was using it as a 3G modem. Otherwise, hard to imagine using this, esp. if your home has wi-fi.

Re: How much data do you use a month?

In post 8 above, it says "you must not use your SIM card to stream continueous audio/video". There are a number of radio stations making their audio streams available via by iPhone applications. All Global stations such as Heart, Gold, LBC, Classic fm etc have streaming applications available in the "app store".

Has anybody here tried streaming radio on their iPhone using 3G?
