couple of questions before considering buying an iphone

ok was perhaps getting an iphone pay and go for crimbo, however i have some questions

1. Will the iphone work fine with my google mail account using IMAP?
2. I know the iphone receives updates in itunes, however i'd like to jailbreak it, does jailbreaking the iphone stop the ability to receive the later updates from itunes?
3. Can i just use my normal genie o2 simcard in the phone?
4. If i were to pay for 3g, whats your opinions on it, is it worth it? easy to connect to etc.

Re: couple of questions before considering buying an iphone

1. Yes, i have mine set up to do it

2. Yes you can update if its jailbroken, however you will probably need to wait a couple of days after the official update is released before someone makes a version of pwn that will jailbreak the update firmware.

3. I would imagine so if its 3G, although the o2 Pay&g sims for the iphone will probably have a data bundle, with your o2 genie sim card you may find that you end up spending a lot of money on data as some functions the iphone have work automatically and use 3g/edge etc. Personally I would get the fully fledged iphone pay&g sim rather than use and o2 genie one.

4. Im on contract, very happy with my phone, although it does have its limitations and falls short where some other phones succeed. On the flip side it also excels where other phones fail miserably, the app store being a great success as far as im concerned. There is no other phone on the market i would consider trading mine in for, and mine isnt even jailbroken. I do wish it had some official video capability however.

Thanks for clearing all my questions up. :D

Re: couple of questions before considering buying an iphone

Sorry to hijack this thread. But I think your questions have been answered. I thought there was no point me starting a new thread when I have some questions before I buy my iPhone.

But could I ask 2 questions please before i buy an iPhone

I am thinking of buying a iPhone that has been activated. If it has been activated will it only work on the itunes it was activated on and is there any way i can reactivate it so it works on my iTunes. If the above answer is yes.
Also can I go into the o2 shop and ask for the iPhone 3g sim to get 12 months internet access?
Thanks

Yes you just have to restore it and reactivate it on your computer.

Dont think so, why would you buy an iPhone contract and then buy the iPhone separately
