Connecting to 12v car socket

I have just got new car and I thought it was going to be nice and easy to use my Iphone with it but no. It is a mercedes with there COMMAND multimedia system and according to the manual I just need a cable that connects my Iphone with the 12v socket in the glove box but I cannot find a cable anywhere. It is not a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable it is the one that has a proper apple connector on one end and 3.5mm jack on the other.
Does anyone know where I can find one?

Re: Connecting to 12v car socket

What are you talking about? To charge it or to connect it to the stereo to play music?

Re: Connecting to 12v car socket

To play music through the stereo but be able to use the stereo to control the ipod.
The manual was a bit misleading and it is the aux socket not the 12 v socket that I want to plug into but it does says with the iphone to aux cable I will be able to control the ipod with the stereo buttons.

Re: Connecting to 12v car socket

No, the aux connection will not allow you to control the iphones functions - it is purely an audio connection. The 12v socket won't let you do it either, and won't let you play audio through it either.

So unless you have a USB input on the back of your cars headunit, you won't be able to assume control of the iphone (or any ipod) playback features

Re: Connecting to 12v car socket

It is not a headunit in the car it is the Mercedes COMMAND system that is more like a mulitmedia player. The manual does say plugging it into the aux port will allow control of the ipod but as you and many others have said doing that will not work.
If I could find a cable I could try it but all the kits I have seen have cigerette light sockets on them so it will charge and they also have some other device to control the ipod..

Re: Connecting to 12v car socket

I think that is the only thing that will do everything at the moment but it costs £200 so alot more than I wanted to spend...
maybe I will just go headphone socket to aux socket...It is not what I wanted but better value at £3.
Cheers for looking anyway..
