Firmware 2.2

Hi Guys,
From fishing around on the net it seems that the 2.2 update is nearly here.

At present I have 2.1 jailbroken with quickpwn. Can I install 2.2 as soon as it arrives or do I have to wait for quickpwn to come up for a break for 2.2

If I dont want to wait and do a restore and upgrade to 2.2 is there then a way i can regain my jailbroken settings when a 2.2 break arrives

Cheers

re: Firmware 2.2

With current system - are new email notifications working well?
not for me without manually checking.

So hope this is working in 2.2 why can emails work like new SMS comes in, which works a treat even in standby.

I read that in sleep mode fetch emails do not work for some users. Seemed to work for me when awake.
Hopefully 2.2 will sort these issues out, didnt Apple claim in 2.1 it improved email?

iPhone 2.1 Firmware May Cause Email Retrieval Problems
September 22nd, 2008, Lonnie Lazar

A number of users are reporting iPhone 2.1 firmware appears to disable automatic email retrieval under certain circumstances, according to active Apple support forums. Specifically related to the 2.1 update loaded onto various models of the phone, users report the phone will not automatically check for mail, whether set to fetch new items on a schedule or to push mail in real time, and will only download new mail when asked to do so manually.

It is uncertain at this time how widespread the problem may be, though at least one forum participant reports having “just received a telephone call from [an iPhone] product specialist, and he confirms that 6 other iPhones in their building are exhibiting the exact same problem,” adding, “This is a global problem. This in their eyes is a ‘major’ issue and is getting escalated as we speak.”

In regards to email, Gizmodo is reporting that the iPhone won’t fetch email while in sleep mode. A reader has confirmed that Apple has this as a “known problem,” and hopefully a fix is on the way. For those worried about battery life, this problem may not be bad.

Assumption is the mother of all cock ups....

Also, the 3G unlocking thread doesn't help 2G users who want to unlock (as in for network) aswell as jailbreak.....

Personally, I'll be waiting for the DevTeam to confirm and put out a working QuickPwn program for 2.2

re: Firmware 2.2

I honestly REALLY hope they don't re-format Safari like this;

Cos I think that looks awful and tbh is pointless. The standard Safari as it is now is much nicer looking, and I don't see the problem of having the google search field drop down when you tap the address box. Okay so you have to tap twice to do a search (once to activate the address bar, and then tap again in the google search box) but is that a huge problem? Of course not!
