Smashed screen, any ideas?

I've just discovered that iPhones and ceramic floors are not a great combination.

The glass screen is completely screwed but the touchscreen works fine and there is only some very minor 'blueing' in the bottom left hand of the screen. I'd be quite happy to replace the glass for about £10 and some youtube viewing. From some general Googling I've ascertained that the screen is a bugger to seperate from the LCD and therefore swapping the whole glass/touchscreen combo is a safer option, unfortunately this will cost £108 for an OEM one.

Does anyone have any experience of swapping the screen over and have any helpful tips?

Cheers.

Nope, what would I need insurance for? Complete waste of money Could claim on the house insurance but already made 1 claim this year after spilling a bottle of Lucozade on the lounge carpet. It's been a clumsy old year!!

Options as I see it are:

1. Replace the screen and take the chance that it might be easier than claimed.
2. Replace the screen and LCD.
3. Ebay it and buy a 3G (just using a Simplicity sim at present).
4. Ebay it and buy something more drop-proof, one of those JCB phones perhaps.

Is it a 3g model?

Get a replacement screen cover here for about £8 delivered: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14833

Re: Smashed screen, any ideas?

No it's a non-3G model. I've ordered a replacement screen from a well-known auction site and we'll see how I get on. There are videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to do it although the bit that involves taking the Dremmel to it is a bit worrying!!
