Strange phonecall regarding carphone warehouse insurance

I have just recieved a weird phonecall from a mobile number asking me to confirm my carphone warehouse insurance with them, I wasn't sure so said I wasn't the account holder.

I'm sure that I paid cover for the first three months and was wondering if anyone else has come across this? I only got the iPhone Friday, and am hoping the phone is insured straight from the shop?

Re: Strange phonecall regarding carphone warehouse insurance

it's a scam, I had the same thing.

Did they offer you insurance much cheaper?

They aren't from CPW or O2, they just call random numbers.

If you ask them how they got your number, they will hang up.

Re: Strange phonecall regarding carphone warehouse insurance

they go to a CPW and buy an O2 phone

They then phone 500 numbers either side of the one they bought.

I even got a leaflet from CPW about it.

If they ring again ask them some questions. They don't actually know any of your details.

Best thing to do would be to get O2 to change your number.

I bet you got a new number with your iPhone

They don't actually know anything.

They make you do the talking.

As soon as I turned my iPhone on, I had a phone call from them. They only stopped when I ported a number in.

Re: Strange phonecall regarding carphone warehouse insurance

Thanks for the info. Bet they don't call back, if they do I'll sort it with the details you gave, asking for details, how you got the number etc.

And yes, you are correct, a new number with the phone!!!!!

The brass neck of some people eh! Wonder if it appears on an upcoming series of the Real Hustle!
