32Gb iPhone

rumours abound that a 32Gb is on the way soon

Apple prepping a 32GB iPhone update, bringing back at-home activation?

by Nilay Patel, posted Sep 20th 2008 at 6:10PM

We're not particularly inclined to believe them, but the whispers that Apple is about to bump the top-end iPhone capacity to 32GB are getting harder to ignore -- especially since 8GB inventory is drying up, leading to speculation that's it's going to be dropped as soon as next week. We think the timing's a little odd on the heels of the Let's Rock iPod refresh, but considering the rampant speculation that Apple was forced to bump the nano to 16GB and drop the "limited edition" 4GB model entirely at the last minute in response to the new Zune lineup we suppose it makes competitive sense. AppleInsider also says customers will once again get the option to activate in-home, but we haven't heard anything about that -- we'll see what happens in the next few days.

Re: 32Gb iPhone

I hope not, not yet anyway. Having just spent good money on the 16 gb one Id be a little annoyed if they launched a 32 Gb one so soon after the last launch.

I'm hoping they do as i'm not getting my 3G until mid November. so if i can get a 32Gb (which will still only hold a 3rd of my Mp3's) i'll be a happy bunny.

Same here...

... I would have thought this would be done next year. I can't imagine they will bring out a totally different iPhone next year, since the current one has pretty much everything. The only thing would HDD size.

Here here, and a 30fps video camera, and mms out the box.

I would be a little upset, having just got an 8gb 3G friday, but thats the way things go with technology.

agreed. I know its great to see Apple leading the technology race but releasing a new version so soon is unlucky for early adopters like me. Despite this though I am still happy with my 16gb version.

its the price all early adopters pay. There is always something bigger and better round the corner.

Although saying Apple are leading the race is a bit rich seen as i have a handset that wont copy and paste or forward text messages (something that my first mobile 10 years ago could do.) It also has a worse camera than a 2 year old Samsung i have in the drawer. While the iPhone is a great handset it has some gaping technological holes in its armoury.

Not really as it doesn't do it out the box (unlike any other phone you can buy) and you have to jailbreak the phone in order to do it. Therefore the vast majority of iPhone users can't do it.

because not everyone is comfy with doing it. Also having to do it just to make up the shortcomings isn't really the answer. Whichever way you slice it Apple missed off some really basic stuff.

What scares me most is that Apple will throw everything at the App store and make people buy the extra functions that should have been there out of the box.

Re: 32Gb iPhone

Looks like it was wild rumours about the 8gb shortage.

Link here

How I understand it, the 32gb iPod Touch has two 16gb chips. The iPhone has only one slot for memory, as the other space is occupied by the sim card. So we probably won't see a 32gb iPhone until prices of memory come down, and then we should also see a 64gb iPod Touch.
