Iphone virgin here with questions!

I recently purchased a friends old 2g iphone, im already on 02 but im not on an iphone contract as yet as it will make my contract longer if i agree.

02 can move me over to there £35pm iphone tariff so i get the free data and wifi browsing but im still worried about charges.

For instance, if i leave the wifi connection in my home and drive down the road the iphone should connect to Edge correct? Now what happens when im not in an Edge hotspot, can i still browse on my iphone and will i be charged for it?

Basicly on an 02 iphone tariff can i ever be charged for data usage?

Re: Iphone virgin here with questions!

Just add the data bolt on to your current contract £7.50 a month.

Re: Iphone virgin here with questions!

you dont need to add the data bolt on as its included in the Iphone contract.

i've got a 2nd hand 1st gen handset and i've not been charged for data and i've hammered it for the last month.

Re: Iphone virgin here with questions!

I'm already paying £35pm so i dont really want to spend another £7.50 on extra bolt ons.

I can move over to an iphone contract although it will add another 6 months onto it.

I just want to make sure if i do move over to an iphone contract is there any hidden data charges to look out for?

Like if im not in a wifi or Edge hotspot can i still use safari? if so is it chargable?

data is data it doesn't matter how its delivered.

why will it add 6 months to your contract? all you are doing is changing your tariff which you are allowed to do. I changed mine about 6 weeks ago and my contract finishes at the end of November 08 (like it was always scheduled to do.)

Re: Iphone virgin here with questions!

Well it turns out the guy at 02 iphone customer services whome i spoke to yesterday was talking rubbish, i decided to bite the bullet and transfer over to an iphone contract but i was today told i couldnt!

Ive had no choice but the add the data bolt on to my tarrif at £7.50pm so i can browse anywhere, nevermind, maybe in 5 months il be able to upgrade early to an iphone 3g and sign up to that contract then!

Re: Iphone virgin here with questions!

Another quick thought, if i get my 2g iphone unlocked or jailbroken, will it then connect to my home wifi without having to pay 02 £7.50pm for that service?

Im not bothered about other wifi hotspots, but browsing at home would come in really handy!

You don't need to unlock or jailbreak the phone in order to use it on your home or any other wi-fi. Obviously if you use it elsewhere where there is a charge for wi-fi you wil have to pay for it unless it is a free wi-fi hot spot.

They are talking rubbish then. As long as your phone is activated and operational you can use the wi-fi with any free hot spot including your home connection. The only wi-fi hot spots that require an iPhone contract for free usage are the Cloud and BT Openzone ones included as part of the official contract.

Re: Iphone virgin here with questions!

My wifi on the iphone is on and connected to my router, but it wont let me browse the internet via wifi atall, i dont even have the wifi symbol next to my netwrok logo!

All i ever get is the "E" logo or a little "o" when im out of an Edge hotspot, its very frustrating!
