Thinking of buying an Iphone..few questions.

Hi thinking of buying one of these next month when i get paid.

What i want to know or ask is..is it possible at some date that a firmware update could sort the lack of mms out and also the bluetooth connectivity( wel lack of) Or would Apple need to fetch another phone out to do this?

I use mms alot and bluetooth alot of stuff to other phones etc, just dont want to commit my self if these cant be done through fw.

Or would i be best holding out till they fetch a iphone 3 out that might have the mms and bluetooth stuff sorted out?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Thinking of buying an Iphone..few questions.

If other forums are to be believed we wont see mms, as apple want everyone to use e-mail. unless they allow a third party app which I would have thought would have been here already.
As for bluetooth not sure they will change this either. Worried we might send each other all our songs i guess but would have though they could set it up so only photos could be sent or at least allow listening to music through you blue tooth headphones.
As I understand it booth would be possible on the current iphone.

PS never heard anyone say someone is going to fetch out a new iphone. What ever happened to good English
Only messing don ot mean to offend

As an aside to the MMS thing I think it might be a network restriction as well. I had to put my sim back in my n95 for something and it wouldnt recieve an MMS. I know its probably easily fixable but it seems o2 are in on it.

That's I believe because they disable MMS entirely when a sim is registered for iphone, because the device doesn't support them, so it would cause potential confusion to the network if it tries to deliver one to device not supporting them or something I guess.

Re: Thinking of buying an Iphone..few questions.

I'm in the same position really

I don't use a massive amount of MMS texts but every now and again a picture message says a 1,000 words! (and that not to do with the young ladies comment above lol honest!).

anyway - it seems that O2 have "turned off" the MMS settings on the iphone sims, and there doesnt seem to be any plans to address this at the moment.

I know that apple have asked them to do this and as is said above its to encourage users to use email rather than MMS - but thats rather short sighted. Th iphone is only 4% of the UK market and the vast majority of that remaining 96% supports MMS and not email. So its a little odd that apple are ignoring this.

as for bluetooth - come on, that should be an absolute minimum on a phone, especially if they are trying to oust blackberrys from business users!

I too really want to wait for Iphone 3 but i think my temptation to buy might snap first!

Re: Thinking of buying an Iphone..few questions.

I do also think it is somewhat shortsighted, on both Apple's part (as the manufacturer) and the networks part (as companies than could lean on the manufacturer) as if the looked at the UK market (can't speak for the rest of the world) they would see people send a lot of MMS messages. I send quite a few, and for me, it's just either pictures, and sometimes video, I have taken with my phone. I don't use it to send music or anything like that, and that "security" could easily be built into the iPhone OS. Same with Bluetooth - allow it to pair with a PC to send and recieve docs, pics, etc, same with other phones, and restrict it for sending media files like MP3/AAC and MP4/video etc etc...

A simple firmware/software update, as far as I could see, could easily implement video recording on the iphone, possibly even digital zoom (this might be pushing it for software only, I know optical zoom is out of the question without hardware change) aswell as implementing a simple and basic Picture Messaging service where it will only let you send pictures only, possibly DRM it right up and let you send only one you take with the phone itself (tho I dissagree with DRM entirely)
