In iTunes I have all my options unchecked for syncing as I like doing it manually aside from pictures as I've read you need it synced so you can copy pictures over, although I had my applications checked as well by mistake.

Anyhow the apps got synced to my PC plus the pictures. So... I unchecked the application box for syncing as I wanted to copy some more pictures, but this time my apps got deleted!!!?!?

My questions are...

1) What did I do wrong, how come my apps got deleted?

2) Is there any other way of transfering pictures to ones iPhone?

You unsync something, it is deleted from the phone.
You want to add photos, way I do it is to create a folder/s on your computer, and put all the photos you want to sync to your phone in it/them ,and sync that folder.You cannot delete pics direct from the phone(apart from the ones you take with the phone).
