buying iphone, quick info needed

Hi,

I have someone who is selling an 8gig 3g iphone for £340. I want to use it with my exisiting 02 contract (non iphone). I asked the seller if i could pop my simcard in to check it works and he said no because the phone is brand new and it has to be connected to itunes first before it can accept any sim cards...

is this correct or is he:

a: just unaware that an 02 simcard would work

or

b: trying to sell me a duff iphone?

Many thanks.

Yeah he's right.

When you get the iphone 3g 8gb, pop your o2 sim in, connect to itunes and it wil activate it for you.

Dont worry I can confirm it all works as you are doing exactly what I did

Yes, the activation on the 3g phones literally just activates it, whereas last year activation meant a sign up to a contract.

You will be fine Just plug & play.

i'd recommend you get data on your contract the iPhone eats through it and it could get pretty expensive. I had a £7.50 bolt on put on last week because of its data consumption.

Also i had no plans to have an iPhone contract but i think to use the phone properly you need the iphone contract. Mine kicks in on the 18th

just my thoughts

thanks Gary, why do you think you need an official contract for it? Other than visual voicemail what else do you get? Because the voicemail side of jt really doesn't bother me

for the data.

its the most data enabled phone on the planet, it would be a shame not to be able to use use it. If you dont think you'll need it then do without.

But i think its worth it. But really it will depend on how you intend to use the phone.
