I believe that you can have separate accounts in iTunes. When you open iTunes you're supposed to press a key or keys that will give you the option to choose which account. Hopefully someone esle can correct me if I'm wrong and clarify it if I'm right. I use a Powerbook as I'm the only one who uses an iPhone with the iTunes on there I don't have any actual experience of multiple accounts. I'm pretty sure it's possible though from what I have read before.

You should log in to Windows or Mac under different user names and open Itunes that way. The contacts should not get mixed up that way. My husband and I do this and use the same purchased music etc.
We use it with an iphone and several ipods.

Before you start itunes press and hold the shift button and you will get a window appearing that gives you the option of creating another library.Do this and name it "Your Wife`s name" and store it it in a different folder from your own that way you won`t get confused.Once you have done this continue as normal but every time you open itunes you need to press and hold shift and select the different libraries as appropriate, otherwise it loads up the last opened library.
You may also want to uncheck the option to automatically sync whenever an ipod is connected.
