can anybody tell me can i use my hotmail account on the new3g i phone becase on the old i phone you cant thanks

You'll be able to use hotmail using the browser over Wi-Fi or 3G, just like on a computer. Hotmail won't work with POP3 as far as I know so you won't be able to set it up with a mail programme.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

I have always managed to get my hotmail emails through the proper Mail application on iphone.

You have to trick it though!

iPhone email works perfect with Google Mail (Google Mail even provides instructions in its settings on how to set up your iphone with it using the IMAP settings).

Create a Google Mail email account. You can then go in to your Hotmail settings and set all your hotmail emails to forward a copy to your Google Mail account. You then go to the settings in Google Mail and can change your default email address to be your Hotmail one (so that when you send emails from your iphone, which is set up with your Google Mail account, the emails appear as if they've come from your Hotmail address and people will reply to the correct address, so when you receive a reply or a new email they will come to your hotmail address which are then forwarded to Google, and you then receive them on your iphone!

It sounds long winded but its actually not and it works perfectly!

I have heard this before. When I try this i keep getting the message

"You're only able to forward mail to a custom domain or an e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com. Please try again."

Not a clue why you get that but when I go in to "Options" and then click "forward mail to another email account" in Hotmail, I have my hotmail account forwarded to my ......@googlemail.com address and it works fine.

thanks for asking the question as i was curious about this too.

i know outlook has the ability to sync with hotmail and hotmail also has the ability to let you download messages pop3 style (not what id want)

will be interesing if MS gets involved in making apps for the iphone

live messenger and hotmail is a must for me.

Is it not about time that one of two things happened?

1. Microsoft make Hotmail open to outside access, and give free IMAP to equal GMail.

or:

2. Everyone realises that Hotmail is a MID-NINETIES email solution that hasn't improved since then. Then they go get a nice free Googlemail IMAP account that works with everything.

I don't understand people's reticence to change their email account. Just send a mass email to everyone in your address book asking them to update their contact details for you. People do this all the time. Even better, buy your own domain and use it to forward your email to a Googlemail account. It's so much slicker.

I keep my MSN account live purely to use MSN messenger, and even that is becoming less and less of a concern.

I agree with your point 1.

Also, I did switch to Google Mail when I got the iPhone but I just dont like it so I reverted back to hotmail which I still prefer, even if it does have less free features.

If you pay for a Hotmail Plus account which I think is about £25 a year from what I remember they give you POP access.

I did this for my blackberry pearl and it works brilliantly. Simply upgrade your existing hotmail account and the POP details are given to you which you program into the iPhone for use in Mail. You can also use the details on any computer I have them programmed into my mac in mail and it downloads and updates hotmail straight from there.

Yes but you are paying 25 quid for crappy old POP access! Not even IMAP! In 2008!

All of which GMail gives you for nothing, plus more storage, better address book - its unbelievable cheek from Microsoft to expect people to do this.

Well seen as the original posters question was about getting Hotmail on his Iphone then the Hotmail Plus is the only option in order to use the mail program on an iPhone. The original question was not I have a hotmail account can someone please slate me and tell me that gmail is better.

Yes Gmail is better but when most people have had a hotmail account for years who they message their friends on changing e-mail address is a pain. This is because you have to notify everyone of the change and check 2 e-mail accounts for the rest of your life as you know that people will still mail you on the old one.

If people follow my advice above they wont need to pay for Hotmail Plus, they wont need to change their hotmail account and they will be able to use the mail function on their iPhone's.

Its very simple to just open a Google Mail account and set up your hotmail to forward copies to it.

Most hotmail accounts don't allow forwarding to another domain. That was the case with mine anyway.

My @hotmail.com account works fine with forwarding. I'm not sure which ones don't allow it though.

From hotmail: You can forward your mail to one other e-mail address that ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com, or Windows Live Custom Domains.

I've tried to forward to gmail and it don't allow it.

Izymail does what you are asking (performs a workaround so you can access your hotmail) but again you have to pay for the privilege.
I am waiting patiently in hope that someone will come up with a neat little app...but we will have to wait and see. I like Hotmail and have never not been able to do something that I would need to go with another email... but I do agree that it is a shambles that they do not allow forwarding!

My (very small) organisation has its own domain for email but it all gets forwarded ultimately to *both* a gmail and hotmail clone account. Our problem is that we have 5 years of archive email which is in hotmail folders (and we dont have full Outlook!). Anyone know if it's possible to move all your hotmail messages and folders across to gmail in one hit?
