If I try and get an iPhone from Germany (T-Mobile)

I am on T-M and don't want to change - I am also a bit wary of getting an O2 UK iPhone and jailbreaking it etc.

So, is a potential solution getting on of these from Germany - i.e. 'off the shelf'; so it's a case of just putting my T-Mobile SIM in it over here?

Possible?

I doubt it, you cant just put a non-iphone O2 sim in the UK phone without jailbreaking it.

Not sure I follow what you mean - this wouldn't be a UK phone, it would be from Germany.

Bit like someone moving from Germany to the UK and them having an iPhone and want to change to T-Mobile UK.

Not sure if you can buy these off the shelf in Germany, however.

An iphone o2 sim is locked until activated by itunes and i presume the same would be true of tmobile in Germany,so you would need to jailbreak the phone either way.

The OP is asking if he'd were to buy a 3G iPhone from Germany (already set for t-mobile) and insert his UK t-mobile sim in it, would it work OK without jailbreaking or unlocking it.

If possible it'll be the route I'd go.

We know what the OP is asking, we have answered it already

As I said its very doubtful, whether T-Mobile or not you will need to Jailbreak to use a non-iPhone sim - exactly the same with O2 sims in the UK.

Hi

I don't know much about this but would just like to know. If you were to buy a any (not just iPhone) phone locked to T-Mobile in Germany will it work with a T-Mobile UK sim. Or if you were to buy an O2 phone in Ireland will it work with an O2 UK sim. Do networks lock phones down to the operator and the country or just the country?

What is wrong with this thread, are the replies invisible to people?

Currently iPhones are LOCKED to anything except for valid official iPhone sim cards.

Sorry Hutch what I am asking is really a general question and not just to do with iPhone. Its really in the wrong place and should be in the general mobile phone forum.
