I got an iphone the day after UK release and have loved the thing, so much so that I am going to upgrade to a new 16GB 3G iphone. I am now left wondering what's best to do with my current iphone.

I do not need a spare pay as you go phone and have no need for a spare so thought it would be best to sell it. I don't really know how much I could get for it though now that the 3G one has been announced and I would want to keep it until I get my 3G one, I don't want to be without a phone. Is anyone else here selling theirs? How much do you expect to get? Ideally I am hoping to get enough to cover my upgrade costs but not sure if this is realistic?

Not that I am selling, but with the change of contract for the 3G phone including penalties when not activated etc...I'm not so certain the 3G version will be that attractive to other network users; pending comments on how grey-import from other countries are handled...

So the hackable, sim-free possible 2.5G version that you can't buy anymore might actually be quite in demand...

Totally agree with the price might rise.

I decided to add some iPhones yesterday to my watch list on ebay just to get a rough idea of how much I could get.

The 16gb one I was watching ended today at midday at £563

I popped my iPhone on eBay yesterday morning to get rid of it before the pre-3G exodus.
It sold in hours for £230 BIN price.
I'm chuffed with that, I paid £169.

Im in the same boat. I think I will wait until the 2.0 software comes out, update my Iphone, then unlock it (if that is still possible after the update) and then sell it on Ebay. I would be happy with it covering the cost of the 16GB upgrade, anything more would be a bonus

It's an interesting topic. The 3G is currently believed to be unhackable. I'm not convinced that will change for any practical purpose for quite a while. So you should be able to get good money for your iPhone after the iPhone 2 ships. But expect another surprise killer feature to drive the publicity / day 1 sales, and possibly make your old iPhone slightly less attractive.

The Pwnage team think Apple will have trouble blocking pwnage. I'm not so sure. I think upgrading to 2.0 may leave your unlock in place, but kill jailbreak and pwnage and any ability to revert to 1.x. That would make your iPhone 1 extra valuable!

My mum really likes my iphone, so i might donate my one to her...... Or i might leave it as v1.x jailbreak it and stick it on ebay...... If i could cover the £60 it will cost me to upgrade to the 16GB i'd be happy.

I dont like selling phones on ebay..... to many nigerian scams mess sales up.

mmmm im unsure whether to keep the new iphone and sell my old one or vice versa!

Either way the cash is going on a skyHD box! I have a couple of marks on my iphone (scratches on the back) which may detract the value away from the really picky buyers! Its in mint condition bar a few scratches on the back panel and corner!!

Oh well looks like ill be selling my new one then!

One prob stupid question i have!

If i decide to sell my old iphone on fleabay or whereever and keep my new one do i just reset my old one and then register the new one via itunes as normal?
Im paranoid about selling my old iphone if its still got my info on if you get my drift? Ive unlocked mine and got all the usual apps on etc. I just wondered what was the easiest way to wipe everything off it so its ready for the new buyer to set up etc!

OK, so the prices are good and there's talk of buying and seeling on this thread, but your not saying if its the 8gig or 16gig ?????
I will also be upgrading to a 3G 16gig, so my 8gig iPhone will be up for grabs when that happens, hopefully the 11th July.

Anyways, to those dreaming of the new phones being unhackable for a while may just be dreaming, I'd be surprised if we don't have a hack in 30 days!

To be honest im not really bothered if its unhackable or not.
Sure ive enjoyed my iphone with all the apps etc but at the end of the day like all mobiles, the novelty has worn off and i just use for calls and sms!

Remember guys, there are still quite a few 3G phone and Nokia's that aren't hackable other than hardware modifications....The iPhone has made it very simple so far, but who is to say this was nothing more than a ploy.....

As to selling your 2.5G iPhone, there have beeen rumours that the 2.0 firmware will come out before 1th July, meaning if you are going to pass on an unlocked phone, you either cannot upgrade to 2.0 when it becomes available or need a way to downgrade to 1.1.4 to unlock again.

Still, even if 2.0 came out tomorrow, not long to wait.

If you are thinking of selling on, I wouldn't just yet upgrade to version 2.0 when it becomes available. I would hold off a little until it is confirmed it can be unlocked and jail-broken.....

As promised here is some pics. The phone is in mint condition. It still has a screen protector on it but that can peel off if you like. I am selling the phone and everything it originally came with minus the headphones. Don't think you would want used headphones anyway

Looking for £180 for the whole lot, I will send it by special delivery on the 12th July. The only reason I am selling this is for funds towards the new 3G iphone. I can accept paypal or cheque.
