Exclamation Help!! My iPhone has gone silent....

This is really bizarre, all of a sudden my 8GB iPhone can't send/receive any audio.

By that, I mean that when someone rings me or I ring them, the line is totally silent and it's like someone has turned off the earpiece and the mic (I can't hear the person I've rung and they can't hear me).

It doesn't matter whether I ring our or someone rings me, all I get is silence.

If I hit the "Speaker" button once I've dialled everything seems ok, but otherwise it's slient.

The only thing I have done differently is to use my old 3rd Gen 20Gb iPod dock to charge it, as the base is slightly wider and will take my iPhone in it's jacket (as opposed to the official iPhone dock that won't).

I don't know if that's relevant, but I hope there's a simple soultion here.

If it helps, I seem to have lost all sounds as when I lock it for example I don't get the normal "shutter" sound.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cracked it!!

It turns our that it thought it still had headphones in.

I plugged the headphones in firmly and removed them, then VOILA!!

All's well that ends well (phew!)

This is quite a common one sadly. As you've found, plugging in and unplugging your headphones a few times usually does the trick

Lol! Same thing happened to me last month. I went even further though and took it to the store, who then sent it off to apple for repair...oops. Oh well, at least I will know what to do in future. I think mine was resolved with a reset though.
