Just a thought really, i have set up my email account with google mail so that it can bounce the mail to me on the iphone...

just wondered if anyone had any experience of how much it costs to retrieve mail using edge on orange pay'n'go

i know it will be data usage but are we talking 15p or £15

just to turn edge on and press the mail button and see what pops through and then off again

Maybe you should ask your service provider how much they charge per kb of data (or mb) and then it will be just a matter of how much info is in any particular email you download to the phone.
