Online repair shops

Well my iphone is really buggered now, no one can hear me when i make calls and my ringtone and sms tones sound very odd, like they are being played through water. Question is, is it worth going to one of these online repair places as i cant go to apple due to it being unlocked? Emailed one of them and he said it could cost between £30-£100 to reapir but i need to send it for diagnostics.

Has anyone used any of these places for reapir or can reccomend any of them?
Cheers

Re: Online repair shops

Can't you just restore it to virgin state and take it in to Apple? Unlock again after it's fixed.

Re: Online repair shops

I can return it to original state but how do i explain the problems that i have with it without admitting its been unlocked? As its not been put on a contract i cant explain how i know its got problems without telling them that.

Unless anyone else has any bright ideas im gonna have to pay to get it repaired.

I think it should be quite easy. As stated you put it back to virgin state, i.e. locked, unjail broken and what sim has been in there is nothing to do with Apple. thats between you and O2....or not as the case maybe. If they persist with questions you just tell them that your mates O2 iphone contract sim was being used in it. They can't prove otherwise and don't have access to call records.

Re: Online repair shops

Thats a good point, my brother has an iphone on contract so i could say that i used his sim card to try it out before commiting to a contract and then the phone started playing up.

Would that work?

Re: Online repair shops

What's the worst that could happen? They refuse to fix it under warranty. So you're no worse off.

If you don't ask, you don't get

I would imagine they are going to want to see the phone working with a contract sim in it before they repair or replace it. Not sure if you can activate it in itunes using your brothers sim or not may be worth playing around to see....

Re: Online repair shops

I think what hutch is saying is that they will know if its been unlocked because usually the baseloader gets changed to a version not associated with the phone to make it run better.

Im guessing your probably right about wanting to see it and i dont think you can activate unless your taking out a contract even with an active sim.

The online process for warranty is a right pain in the arse too, got through most of it and it asks to explain the problem but only gives u about 5 options and none of those help me, think im just gonna send it off to a repair shop.
