btopenzone problems??

I signed up to the 02 simpicity iphone deal 3 months ago and have had not much chance to check the free wifi out. I connected to the cloud network fine when i was at medowhall fine but when i was out and about around my local area I tryed to connect to btopenzone while in a kids soft play area. When i tryed to connect the login screen comes up and i had to scroll down to o2 and then entered my mobile number and continued. The screen just sat on the same login screen a never moved i refreshed the page but nothing what am i doing wrong?? I checked with the iphone team at o2 that i was able to get both cloud and BT and the told me thats correct

I would like to know about this also, I've not connected to The Cloud but did try Openzone, when it connected i had a web page which was about connecting and charges for a day, week, month etc. Do i need to regester or should it connect straight away. I'm on an O2 contract. Cheers.

BT Openzone does seem to be a bit more picky about letting you login, although I've just watched Rangers v Hamilton on Sky Mobile via a BT Openzone Hotspot no problems, could maybe just be that Hotspot?

I have had this problem many times and a call to O2 was helpful to identify the problem that I was having at least, which is that BT customers with the home-hub that are on the tarrif that includes mobile roaming with open reach. Their home-hubs broadcast their signal to look exactly the same as any public access openzone which to a point is true, BUT you can only access the use of their signal if you are signed up on that tarrif yourself as a BT home-hub subscriber.
You cannot access what looks like an openzone signal through the O2 route.
If this is in fact true which I believe it to be then it is quite plainly daft that there is no obvious indication of a difference to the signal you see. There must be thousands of users scratching their heads as to why they cannot access all these hotspots that can be seen.
Hope this helps.

Yes i have heard of that before as i did try to connect to a FON signal but found that to be a BT customer home hub.
But the one i tryed to connect to in my first post did let me choose o2 and enter my number but hangs on that screen. I see what you mean about them been called the same but a not for the iphone user

I'm having to 'forget' the BTO network in wifi settings because its unusable when it connects automatically with just 1 or 2 or even 3 bars at the fringes of reception. I have to switch to 3g to use some apps needing data as it takes forever on BTO. its ok if i'm moving towards the hotspot or working near it where there is a much stronger signal i just wish it didnt connect with such a weak signal in areas beyond its 'effective range'. Turning off wifi whilst in BTO area with just 1 or 2 bars defeats the purpose of a wifi hotspot especially when your just passing by or working on the fringes of reception & need to use an app needing data. Is there any wifi 'tweaks' i could try to resolve this?

Sorry to have ressurrected this thread didnt want to create a new one.
