Hi there,

If I walked into an o2 or Orange store and purchased a 3GS what is the chance that I could unlock it and then use it on Three?

I want to pretty much guarantee it can be unlocked so is there anything I can look for? Can you take one back on pay&go for a refund or not?

The first thing you need to do is have a look here:

Settings > General > About then scroll all the way to the bottom and report back what version your Modem Firmware is. Also, about half way down you will see "Version" which will probably be 3.1.2.

If your Modem Firmware is 4.26.08 or 5.11.07, you should be able to unlock, but please note you WILL need to Jailbreak your phone which may have warranty implications.

Have you tried asking Orange if they can unlock it? If they do they will charge a fee, though.

Once you have the Modem Firmware and Version info, report back and someone will point you in the right direction.
