Please help - important purchase for my daughter

Hi

Can you please help as we are wanting to buy an iphone on pay as you go for my daughter and dont want to make a mistake!

1. Due to price we will be looking at 3g as opposed to 3gs but what is the main difference?

2. Can we put any o2 payg sim in it? The main thing she will want is 300 txts per month with unlimited internet

3. i have looked at a few good prices on ebay for 'new and sealed' iphones, but some say 'jail broken', what does that mean?!!

Many thanks for your time

Re: Please help - important purchase for my daughter

1. 3Gs is faster has video recording and a compass.

2.You can but if you want unlimited internet you should use the iphone payg sim that comes with the phone as it gives you 12 months internet free.
No free txts tho you pay for them all and you get some free minutes.
Might be better with a £20 monthly simplicity sim + web bolt-on 600 mins 1200 txts. Its a rolling monthly contract you can cancel anytime.

3.It lets you add more apps to the phone and change the user interface (themes).

Be VERY wary of buying an iPhone from fleabay

Personally, i would spend the extra and buy from Apple et al

Also, I *think* you can get £100 cashback via Quidco.com for a 12 month Simplicity contract.

Rather than risk getting stung on fleabay i would bite the bullet - pay full retail from O2 or Applestore. you will get free interweb for 12 months and if you go for the text alot tariff - top up £10 per month and get 300 texts free. The £10 topup will pay for calls or when the 1 month topup period has expired the £10 starts getting used up for calls and texts.

Are vodafone and orange doing iPhone 3G on PAYG. If so - or if you can just buy handset from apple then check out what PAYG deals you can get from those. With voda you can add an Internet pack for £5 which although it isn't unlimited gives you about 700mb per month if I remember correctly.

Doesn't the "unlimited web" bolt on cost £7.34 per month?

No, you get a choice of one of their 'Free Bolt Ons' with the tariff.

Tariffs - O2 pay monthly SIM only tariffs

Apologies as I am prob being dense but I can't see anywhere on O2 where Simplicity is £11.05 per month for 800 mins, 1600 txtx and free bolt on?

Also, can anybody explain how Quidco works? Does this mean we could get the iphone 3G for £240?

Cheers

If you sign up for Simplicity by going through Quidco, then you get £100 cashback.

So you take the Simplicity tariff:

12 months @ £20=£240.
£240-£100 cashback via Quidco=£140.
£140 over 12 months=£11.66 per month.

Yes, Just get the PAC code from Orange and then pass it to O2 to port the number across.

yeh your right

for us money savvy people, we've figured out overall its cheaper to buy the phone on Paygo and get a sim only deal

here's a tip, get an interest free (for purchases) credit card for 12 months, put the iphone and sim only deal on it, and then setup a standing order to pay off the card over the 12 months (or 18 months if you can get one)

works out a lot cheaper.....just remember to cut the card up and not use it for anything else!!!

Sorry mate, I don't understand what your problem is with my request? I don't want to go on a contact, I just want to buy PAYG for a daughter who has had a rough time lately.

Sorry if this has some how bothered you!!

Re: Please help - important purchase for my daughter

Sorry If I seemed vexed I am not. I was commenting on what a simple act like finding an easy and affordable payg contract for a mobile phone reads like a pantomime script. Wholly the fault of the smoke and mirrors that is the mobile phone business model.
