Faulty iPhone off eBay. :(

I bought a 16GB iPhone 3G from eBay on Friday and for the past 2 days have been trying to work out why the 3G signal was impossible to get hold of.

I have just taken it to an o2 store and they tested it and say it is definitely faulty!! Grrrrrrr!!! They say the loss of 3G is just the start, it will eventually not be able to get a 2G signal either!!

The seller said it was working perfect and only 9 months old. I have typed the serial into the Apple website and it says no warranty left!!

I have opened a Paypal dispute and waiting to hear back from seller.

Anyone else had the same problems ie no 3G signal fault. Do Apple do repairs outside of warranty and if I got it off ebay??

The bloody phone is perfect in every other way!!!

I think your best bet will be claiming back your money through paypal as the phone is significantly not as described. If the auction said it had warranty and theres none you will be refunded if the seller has money in his account. If not then you can still claim the money back through your CC company.

Re: Faulty iPhone off eBay. :(

The listing said:

The condition of this iPhone is as good as new, with no marks or scratches (except very minor evidence of general usage). This has been my pride and joy, and been thoroughly looked after in a non-smoking environment. It is of course fully working and has been a great phone since the day I got it out of the box around 9 months ago (recently moved to France, so needed a French version!).

Everything is in the box, and this iPhone is not attached to a contract, so it's ready for you to add a Pay-as-you-go SIM or jailbreak as you please.

Re: Faulty iPhone off eBay. :(

Sorry to hear that.

Options:
1. Is 3G deffo turned on in Settings> General> Network?
2. Have you reset network settings?
3. Are you running the latest firmware?
4. Could be a possible antenna fault since the antenna connector on 3G just has a sprung loaded contact onto the main board - have you any companies who could look at it for you? Some are no fix no fee?
5. Paypal if you are really unhappy.

Hope you resolve it

Re: Faulty iPhone off eBay. :(

You should be fine getting your money back but the seller has not said that there was warranty, he says "since i got it out the box 9 months ago" He could argue he bought it second hand in its original box. Never make assumptions when buying off ebay and ask all the right questions before committing to buy!!
That being said the fact the phones broken and apple have confirmed this gives you grounds for a refund, good luck!

Apple didn't confirm it, some O2 shop monkey said it was borked. You should take it to an Apple store for their verdict IMO.

Re: Faulty iPhone off eBay. :(

If you have no joy getting a refund then you could take it to Apple and get it checked, there is the Euro regulation about being fit for purpose for longer than 12 months but it can be a bit of hassle and you'd need to speak to a manager and be firm (polite of course but firm). Some have had success with this.
