There is probably a fair usage policy so they are just warning you?

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

Hi

Yes there is a fair usage policy with O2, however unlike Vodafone and Orange they don't give a limit in mb's. They just state

"There is no limit on the monthly network usage. However if we feel that your activities are so excessive that other customers are detrimentally affected, we may give you a written warning (by email or otherwise). In extreme circumstances, if the levels of activity do not immediately decrease after the warning, we may terminate or suspend your Services."

So its really up to O2 as to what unlimited means.

You tethering much, doing lots of big downloads or streaming?

By the way, they're called O2... you know, oxygen... not "zero two"

co-pilot , apart from downloading the app, uses no data, this is the whole point in it, everything is stored locally

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

You might want to check your data usage on your iPhone - it should tell you how many MB you have sent and received.

This might help you narrow down where the excessive usage is coming from, for example you may have sent an email with a large attachment ?

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

Oddly enough i had a warning sms last month and a nice letter telling me to cut down on my usage or recommended to sign up to a web bolt on.
I rung to find out what they are on about cos i hardly web and if i do its normally a quick look on bbc mobile.
Was told i have actually used sod all so was told to ignore, but thinking back i wonder if its a ploy to get people to sign up to a web bolt on ????

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

The 'unlimited' data on O2 pay monthly, Simplicity and PAYG Bolt-Ons have a much lower limit, usually around 500Mb before they warn you of your usage. It's not a limit as such, but is the level they consider acceptable for this type of contract.

The iPhone Contract 'unlimited' data is as per richcandy's post above... just a note to say don't take the...

It's quite easy to hit 500MB+ in a month on a regular basis so if you're not on an iPhone contract, it's not a great surprise you've been warned.

If you are on an iPhone contract though, check your data usage as suggested and if it's higher than you'd expect, consider a restore through iTunes as you may have a rogue application that's constantly using data.

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

Very interesting thread...........I'm not a heavy user......but I would not say I'm a light user either. Watched TV through TVCatchup, download apps just about everyday, check emails numerous times a day and I've never had this.

Maybe you should quote the PR lady mentioned in the link below to O2 if they start getting funny!

iPhone on Orange or O2? We compare - Crave at CNET UK

We were highly surprised to hear the friendly gentleman tell us O2 also enforced a fair-use policy on its unlimited iPhone data plan, but that it was 8GB -- over 10 times what Orange offers. This in itself is brand-new information, as we believed O2's definition of fair usage to be about 200MB. We were wrong.

To make absolutely sure this new 8GB figure was correct (there's no mention of any data limit in its terms and conditions pages), we called O2's public-relations department. A spokesperson told us there's absolutely no figure in its fair-use policy -- 8GB or otherwise -- at which iPhone customers might face problems with O2.

*Snip*

Streaming TV using TVCatchup over 3G uses a hell of a lot of data

Just don't understand.

How can you have 'unlimited' and a fair usage policy which is a cap?

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

i am just going to keep my data roaming off for a couple of days and then turn it on for a day without actually using any apps etc to see if anything is using data without my knowledge

after i got the email i checked the usage amount and it was at 100mb.

does this automatically reset when phone is fully recharged.

i have reset it to zero myself

One of the oldest swindles in the business

I understand businesses rights to impose fair use - for example if you had the thing running 24/7 as a router and were in no way making personal use of it all that time.

But to do 500mb or something so arbitrarily small is no way unlimited.

Re: 02 Phone Usage High?

just worked out what the problem is.

the retailer we get our (business phones) off didnt bother adding the Business Bolt on, so we / I now have a rather large bill for Data Usage
