hi all,

recently i have had 2p (as in £0.02) come out of my orange UK account every hour.

orange tells me this is internet access. but because it's so regular, happening thoughout the night and when i'm in my house when the iphone should connect to my wireless broadband account, i think there's something dodgey going on.

i vaguely remeber hearing about some scam when people were hacking into people's iphones and causing them to somehow send small ammounts of money to them.

could this be what i have? or could it be some recent app that is charging me? like sky+ remote (it's supposed to be free) or is it just a problem at orange?

any ideas ?

The iPhone's always using data

Checking for appstore updates
Push notifications
etc...

what i found was to go to celluar data and put some ramdon letters in it so it cant connect
it worked for me

but leave your mms settings the same as its for sending and recieving picture msgs

in order to be REALLY, REALLY, sure, just put a different apn on your cellular data network. You can do this by going to settings, general settings, network, and cellular data network. Just add another letter to the default apn and your iPhone shouldn't connect to your carrier's servers and use up data.

so there's nothing dodgey going on?

i'm pretty ignorant about phone terminology and how they work, i thought when i was in my house it would only use the wireless router, and so i wouldn't be charged for connection.

this problem has only just started, i never used to have these charges appearing.

also, i should have mentioned i'm on pay as you go and my phone is a 2G running 2.2.1. if that makes any difference.

basically, i'd like it to connect when i'm in a wifi zone or when i buy a day/week package from orange but at no other times.

is this possible?

Just add another letter to the default apn and your iPhone shouldn't connect to your carrier's servers and use up data.
when you want to use the 2g internet while your out delet the extra letter you put in your apn
and it will connect
